Ok so probably should be in NL but they will potentially be used in comps so... ;)

I'm desperatly trying to find a pair of johdpurs or breeches that will last more than 9 months.

I tend to ride daily (only 1 horse) and then will muck out & feed in them. In the last 18 - 24 months I have gone though:

1 pair of Dublin johds - legs wore out as I was just riding in ankle boots & no chaps.
1 pair of ELT breeches - knees & bum went.
1 pair of Ariat - these are technically still intact but all the stretch in them has gone so
that they now look more like a pair of the old school 'balloon breeches' of the 1930s...

So recommendations please of Johds or breeches that will last at least 2 years!
They need to be suitable for an Australian summer (so failrly light weight/ thin) with suede/or grippy knees or full seat.

Thanks!

If you want to know what B. and I have been up to lately have a look in the 'Hunting forum' :)

I don't do as much as you, I don't ride everyday but the peter willliams jods last quite well. I do find them quite hot though. ( but I do feel the heat )
Kerrits are the coolest Ive found, but I'm not sure how long lasting they are, I've only had mine a few months.

I used to wear Peter Williams and Dublin all the time when I was living in Aus, but as soon as I moved in Europe you won't find me in anything but Pikeur. It is a bit costly to get them in Australia because you either have to buy them online form Europe and get them sent by mail, or buy them at a shop (most likely trade stands at the big dressage comps) and pay more for the tax on them.
However, they are definitely worth it, I have been wearing mine for two-three years and ride anything from two to seven horses a day!

Pikeur all the way for me! Yes, they cost, but they fit well, don't go baggy and wash beautifully. They last for ages so you do get your money's worth :)

My current competition Johds are Peter Williams and they copped fine when they only got an airing every 3 mnths or so, but 5 weekends straight hunting and the bum in them is falling to pieces (its a suede and bits are literally droppping off!)

OOH I'd forgotten about Pikeur! I used to do endurances in a black pair of their breeches - they lasted well! :)
Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll start looking for some Pikeur or Cavallo that won't break the bank...

And another vote for Pikeur!

...though being in cold, soggy Scotland, I only ever wear the winter, fleecy, weather-resistant ones. In the summer.

Oops, that could be embarressing.
The cheapest Ive seen new pikeur in australia is $280... it might work out cheaper to buy from the UK and pay the postage, unless ebay have any.

I'm
Honestly not advertising! But the premier equine breeches are great, they're really lightweight. I've been in Hong Kong and found my pikeurs rather warm, the ariats were better.

Pikeur last decades, they're amazing.
Kerrits are lighter & comfier & definitely last a good while (had 1 pair well over a year, as new still), also about 1/2 the price of Pikeur, but not quite as smart maybe.

I've never seen any Kerrits 'in the flesh', what are they like? I prefer high waisted & generally more traditonal looking johds. Also I'll probably compete in them so they need to be competition ok.

Can you recommend any particular styles of Kerrits to consider? Also do the sizes come up large or small?

Thanks!

I'm a Mark Todd fan, the zips go but the jodhs and breeches last a good long time. I have a few pairs and alternate every day.

I have rugged breeches. My competition ones are lovely and I have 2 normal everyday pairs that I wear all day long in. I ride 4 times a day and muck out a yard full of horses in too. Roughly around £60 each. I love them.

Pikeur without a doubt.

You want the Prestige Microfibre 2000 which is the thin, very lightweight and stretchy material if you're after one's for hot weather.

not sure about postage costs to you but i bought my cavallos from an ebay shop in spain...very reasonable and she does pikeur as well... shop is called.....classic dressage marbella

I only wear mark todd gisbourne, wear them 15 hours a day for all yard work including quite often being underneath a tractor r horsebox trying to fix something, plus daily riding half a dozen, they wash up great, I get mine in sales or 2nd hand on eBay, so pay no more than £20 a pair and they are still going strong years later.
