she jumped out the school?:(

Ok so heres my story, she is 5, going to turn her away in september as i want to try and sort out our napping problems. I have been having lessons on her every week and she appears to have been improving, until today!!!

Now she napps on the lunge, out hacking while schooling at any opportunity really but she had been really good the last month or so. We have been doing lots of pole work with her with them scattered round the school to just work her over them to try and make her ignore them.

Well she napped today truned her round over she went (this was about 5 mins into lesson) then the second time round she went at the last minute nearly knocking me out on a tree jumped out the school taking most of the fencing with her and charged off across the field cause it was tangled round her feet. My school is electric fencing (big posts) but isnt on!

Well i stayed on and rode her straight back into the school while my instructor tied the fence back together the best she could while i walked her round

Jess was really strong and kept jumping over the poles and trying to run off. Nothing has changed like tack etc and teeth and stuff is all up to date!

Any ideas what to do. Also i was going to send her away to be schooled when i bring her backinto work in march/april. Would you advise doing it when she comes back into work or before i turn her away? It would be to a friend who i know really well. If she hasnt grown up when she come sback i think i may have to sell her in the summer as she is turning into a nightmare!!!!!

It could be any number of things. You say that the tack hasn't changed but your horses shape may have, especially with the summer grass. A saddler can come and check your tack for about £50 max. Also what are you feeding her? Be aware that some of the "non-heating" feeds still have cerials and if she's sensitive to them it can effect her behaviour. Try curtting out had feed at the moment (gradually and provided she's in good condition) to see if this makes a difference and then speak to a feed supplier about your best options. She could of course just be trying it on and not enjoying her work. Try riding her out with anouther "safe" horse. As regards schooling I would say definatly after her rest.

She works 6 days out of 7. She either does an hour hacking, 25 mins on the lunge or 35 mins schooling. This is what my instructor had reccomended and she generally enjoys her work!

All her tack etc is checked regulary and her saddle very recently. She has half a scoop of Hi-Fi Lite, half a scoop of pony cubes, garlic and apples. Unfortuanatly she needs feeding as my other mare has msm in her feed and Jess is the bossy one!

She just napps really bad and has jumped out the school before on the lunge a few times but never with me on her! Just at a witts end withher really, i know she has done really well sincei had her (she wouldnt even pick up her feet) but i want her to behave before she gets turned away so i can leave it on a good note.

I thought i would hack her for a week or so when she comes back into work and send her to my friend for a week or two.

Dosn't sound like she's over-fed and she's not on cereal. The excercise regeime sound OK too, just make sure that the schooling/hacking balance is right! I had a look at your website and you work at an equestrian centre so someone there should be able to give you better help and on the internet as they and see the situation. Just remember that young horses leanr how to be naughty and evasive just as quickly as how to be good so you need to be one step in front all the time and nip it in the bud before it becomes "learned". Good luck. Just a quick note, I have a 4YO KWPN who was broken at 3.5. He is turned away at the moment and it seems to be doing him loads of good. He is so much moor chilled and relaxed and has matured mentally and physically so much over the last few months. Maybe turning your mare away to think about things and chill out will do her good.
