help!! jumping a red light while towing

I'm sure the vast majority of people who have driven horses around will appreciate the situation you describe.

Not necessarily jumping a clearly red light, in my mind that is wrong whatever the situation, but no matter how hard I've tried, I have been in positions whereby I have approached a green light cautiously expecting it to change. Then made a calculated decision that ive reached the point of no return and committed to crossing the junction. This invariably means accelerating. Every now and then the timing is such that the lights go Amber just as you reach them - in this situation I'm afraid I'm committed to continue.

I've never been caught on a camera but I have wondered the appeal ability of such a situation. I suspect there wouldn't be any.

I suppose it's very easy to be black & white about things but real life is never that simple.

Did you start to cross the line on amber or red ?

If no traffic light camera and no cops about then nothing will happen to you

Use as a learning experience for the future especially as nobody was injured and no damage was done

I've done it. Right outside a Police station! In my defence, Your Honour, it changed so fast, that to have stopped would have, quite possibly caused my horse to go down and damage to my vehicle.

Pelican crossing, I'm bimbling along at slightly under 30mph, I see a pedestrian approach the crossing, so I started to gently slow, ready to stop. Pedestrian pressed the button and the lights changed immediately. I'm not kidding, amber - red, no slight delay on amber, nada. So I kept going. Could have stopped if I had absolutely had to i.e the pedestrian had decided on a spot of jaywalking, but I didn't.

Something I have wondered since - is there an official minimum time for the amber to show? I know it varies, depending on the road, but is there a minimum?

thankyou for all of your opinions. I may of used the wrong wording in some of what I have put, some of you have been really helpful and understanding of what I did-but I do appreciate what everyone else has said. and I do admit I was in the wrong. yes there was a camera on the lights but on the other side.

I assume you are in ireland and honestly i have jumped a few reds there. The system is different than in the UK and the red lights come on much faster than they do here. I wouldn't worry you won't have been caught.

Red lights can come on pretty fast over here as well.

I suspect there are certain limits they have to adhere to, but I like many others, have gone through a light just as it's changed to Amber as to break would have been a dangerous thing to do. It was a few years ago so can't remeber fully, but I think the light went from green, amber and red as I went through it.

I'd be more tempted to break a bit sharper in a box than towing a trailer

Hopefully the camera wasn't on your lane, and if it was it could be off. I've seen a fire
Engine go through a red light and watched the camera only for it not to flash.
With regard to my friend who pulled forward for the ambulance - there was no alternative route for the ambulance - unless it had the capability of mowing down traffic lights!
She did not pull into the lane of the moving traffic (four way lights) just crept over the line at an angle to allow the ambulance to squeeze past, so didn't endanger anyone. Lesson learned on my behalf - there could be a convoy of flashing blue lights behind me at a camera red light and I'm not engaging my gears for anyone!!!!
Honestly OP try not to worry (unless you're on 9 points ;)). You are not alone I've seen several HGV drivers do similar - I agree that lights sequences are designed for faster moving/sharper braking vehicles than Horseboxes and large lorries.
