my horse is eating the dung in the field. what could cause her to do this?
I'm getting the vet out any ways because she also has a dull coat but is still very happy in herself.

But i just wanted to know what the reason was? I know it could be down to lacking in some sort of vit.

Oh also it is just fresh ish ones.

Thankies very much.:D:D

I don't mean to be rude, and I thikn it's nice that you care about your horse enough to call the vet ( as many with horses that actually need a vet would not ) But why are you getting a vet just because of a dull coat??? Is their any other problems with him / her?
xx

Hi your sounding rude at all.

She is a bit ribby and is getting ad lib hay and is on 2 feeds a day. She is up to date with worming etc etc. and i have racked my brains. So that was the only other reason i was going to get vet out.:D:D

Oh..Ok - sorry...Just took it from your post that all was wrong was a dull coat! Haha.

Hope it gets figured out and pony is better soon...As for the poo eating - I think it is a difficiency in something, as said above, I would get a vit and mineral supplement just to be on the safe side...Or she may just like eating poo!

My boy does this when he's lacking fibre... but as yours is on add lib hay I would say she's ok on that front.

Re the ribbyness and dull coat, it sounds a lot like she has tapeworm. I realise you may be on a 'regular worming programme' etc etc but I know of several horses where this is the case and they end up being diagnosed with it. two double doses 2 weeks apart was all that was needed. might be worth a blood test though.
