help lame pony!!

we have a pony i rescued who has been lame on and off since we got him 3 mths ago, vet thought it was locking of the stifle because he drags his back toes. but when he walks his hips and pelvis area are very stiff it doesnt move in a normal way nor do his back legs he doesnt seam to be in pain but cant get his feet cornated, any one have any ideas what this could be? The only other this is he had been abused before we got him and hes basily blind from a head injury

hes 3 all i no is he suffered a head injury when he was abused thats why he lost his eye sight

Have you had a physio out? Could it be muscular damage?

they think it more bone than muscular

If you really want to know what is wrong with him you will need to get him refered to one of the large equine practices in Newmarket who have all the specialist scanning equipment that is necessary to diagnose the cause.

thing we are talking about a pony who cost £100 im on limit funds as im self imployed and if we went to new market be a 4 hour drive think that would be a really bad experence for a 3 year old whos blind and he doesnt have good blance, or im worng plz say if i am

Its a bit expensive but newmarket joint supplement is the most highly recommended with proven results.www.vetuk.co.uk has 50 day supply for about £32 inc postage.The thing is if you try doing it on the cheap you have to throw away a lot of supplements that dont work and it then isnt such good value.Id try the best to get him right first.if hes on pony rations then it will work out cheaper anyway.
The other one you could try is www.horsesupplementsdirect.co.uk a pony we had on loan had locking stifles we never had any problems whilst he was on this joint product.

Locking stifles normally improves with more exercise and increased fitness. The back leg locks and then releases and the pony should walk okay after. Can you ride your pony.

Second that the more excercise he had the better he was.He was jumping doing dressage and endurance so it doesnt stop them once they are fit.

he is lunged 3/4 times a wk does lots of hill work ect im trying to break him in but all this and still no improvement

It doesnt sound like he has much going for him, blind and lame

yea we dont think he does just our love, but he seams happy, the day hes not is the day we make decisons. yea hes basily almost blind, Dont no weather 2 just turn him 2 grass letn him live his life like that. Wish i new how 2 help him or new what was wrong
