the doctors have confirmed that i have torn my medial collateral ligament in my knee - has anyone ridden with this kinda injury - any advise/experiences much appreciated!
I think that a friend had this type of injury but he is a footballer and not a horse rider.(am I right in thinking that it is the one that runs down the outside of the knee as opposed to the one that runs on the inside)He couldn't play with it and had an arthroscopy done after seeing a consultant.
You have my sympathies though as I am recovering from a ligament injury in my foot and hating the fact I can barely walk let alone ride at the moment.
OH DEAR ........I Had a fall dec 2008 from a very naughty racehorse !! ,did my collateral ligs both sides of my knee and also damaged my cruciate .....sadly i was misdiagnosed so its been a very long process for me ,12 weeks in knee brace, two operations and just over a years physio .....obviously the cruciate was the main problem thats why it has taken so long to heal.
have you had a scan ? i hope so as early and correct diagnosis is mega important .if not GET ONE ASAP ...
l am now riding out 5 lots every morning and doing everything i did before my accident ,EXCEPT FOR RIDING THAT DAMN LOONY !!
best advice is to rest, until you feel comfortable and use elasticated knee support .. hope your soon better
you might get away with just resting it - I did the same and due to my numerous stints in hospital (all equine related) fought very hard NOT to have an operation. I have been warned that one more "accident" will see me needing an op! I switched to riding in Sprengers once my knee was better and it made a huge difference. Can't ride in normal stirrups as end up crippled!
my son has done his knee in..happened 6 weeks ago at school...not even a horse in sight...still waiting to see someone...we were'nt even offered any pain killers when he did it just told to rest it..looks like it is now going to be scans x-rays the works...he would have been better breaking something...
sadly the only way i got my knee sorted was to go private ,im not rich ,but after waiting so long for a correct diagnosis, i had little option as am self employed and ride for a living .
