I have literally only just realised the Regional Champs test is in a long arena. I don't even know where the letters go. I have never ridden in a long arena. How different is it? Do I need to go and hire somewhere? Arggh. It just never occured to me! I should have remembered from when the same 'oh no' realisation dawmed for Katie when she was training with the U18 team. But at least her coach could tell her what she needed to know!

Look at a diagram online - and then learn the shapes. No need to go and practice unless it's convenient to do so. Long arena tests usually ride much better with more space.... Wish eventing didn't use short ones!

Well, it probably is easier to do a hire if you possibly can - we train at home in a 28m x 18m or a field, but all our comps are in a long area so I do try to get time at my trainers in to run through!

Sign up to dressage diagrams and you will see where you have to circle etc. once you’ve started riding the la tests you will hate the short ones 🤭

Thanks I can imagine that is a very useful site. But having just registered and faffed about for a bit, I can't make head nor tail of it. All I can see to do is buy the test. But I have the test. I just don'tt know how to ride it!

Have you downloaded the BE test app? If you do that then select the test, then moves you get a diagram version which might help you

If you have a smooth field and poles you can lay out a large size dressage arena. That is what my young RI did. Far easier for canter than a fenced school.

I remember whether it is long diagonal, or a long arena marker to a short arena marker by think this is sauce (HP) or this is Kate (KR a friend's initials). I don't normally use that way of remembering things as have a good memory and things just go in, but dressage tests most definitely don't. Good luck.

My two tips would be:

Don’t forget your canter give and retakes as I have done before

Practise your centre lines as they are very long!!!

Have fun

Trust me, the ash has a 60 m set of white boards laid where the jumping lane usually is. Give them a ring first thing, or email Millie now, she seems to work all hours and answer her emails late and you're a good customer.
