Help!!! mare in foal?

Okay so confused my welsh mare has ballooned in weight since july and then the vet came the other day (as my coloured went down with colic) he made a joke about her been pregnant (basicially just calling her fat) but that got us wondering during the summer we rented a field so our grass at home could grow and whilst we were there a 6 year old welsh section a stallion from the field next door got into ours. Would my 14.2hh gelding let the colt get anywhere near my mare or would he just chase it away from her all the time? She is showing some symptoms (eg not coming into season) But I don't know whether i've just not been looking as we've only just thought about it she is also been extremely tempremental when i try to tack her up (tries to bite) she seems to get agressive when i touch behind her front leg but she is abit moody anyway can anyone help?

She is around 14.2hh and was in season around the time she went to the field

any help would be great!

If you can transport her I would just get her to the vet/ somewhere with stalls and get her scanned (cheaper than a blood test). The vet might just have to put his hand there and he should know if it was back in July.

i'm not much help to be honest, i once had this same scare with my mare but it turned out fine.
If you are in doubt talk to your vet and they might suggest getting her scanned....
 
well i was thinking the same as all of you but the thing my gelding is extremly protective and things he IS a stallion and when we came and found them the little stallion was been chased after by the gelding

gosh why is my mare such a flirt she's been flirting over the fence for days! :L

Your mare would not have come into season recently because it is winter.

I am quite surprised that you did not test her for pregnancy when you found a stallion in the field?

Surprised your vet didn't recommend scanning your mare if you told him/her that a stallion had got into her field the previous year.

The signs you are mentioning are not particularly indicative of a mare being in foal so you may have got away with it. `Maiden mares generally do not get 'big' until the final couple of months. Having mares and stallions in adjoining fields can be asking for trouble.

We had a similar thing where the 15.2 stallion from next door got in our field and our 12hh gelding had him cornered and terrified to the point that he came down with colic and had some sort of fit, so we were pretty sure he didn't get near our mare!! The temperament could be that she is starting to season or if she is in foal is starting to feel it a little. Perhaps a blood test would be in order just so you know whether or not to ease up on her workload.
