Help. ,mare not weeing.

Hello,

In vet area too, but lots of knowagable (spelling) people on here too

Was wondering if anyone could help me, mare normal perky self, had been weeing last night as wet patches in stable, been out all day, & now in at night, i noticed that while she was in she was straining to go for a wee like her bum was tensing up, you could see it. Also the little bit of wee she did was a greeny snotty colour, not smelly either...she is on anti-biotics from cutting her head open on sunday....

Please someone help....or do you think i need to get the vet out tomorrow? Shes her normal self...eating her hay etc.

I would be getting the vet out now.

Well, I would be RINGING the vet, but if they're anything like my vets they'll insist on coming out and not dignosing over the phone...!
 
i cannt get the vet out tonight....im at uni i can first thing in the morning. But i dont want to see my horse suffereing :(. Only person is my mum, & i dont think she would do it...
 
Personally, I think its an emergency and you need to get advice from the vet. I never understand posts saying they "cant" - I would move hell or high water to get the vet out for my horse and if that meant getting my mum out of bed, so be it!

Ring the vet, see what they say, then if they need to come out RING YOUR MUM or someone, ANYONE who can meet them. You would never forgive yourself if she got seriously ill and you could have prevented it.
 
Agree. Time to be brave. If you're at uni and have a horse chances are your mum (and dad) supports both you and horse financially to some extent. Nether kids nor horses are cheap so she wouldn't be doing it if she didn't really want to. Get her to help!
 
hi, yes just rang my mum...shes up & heading to the yard as we speak...had an argument with my dad explaining how not right this is for horses! But managed to get there!. If she hasnt wee'd the vets going up there.

Horse has cost me too much this week! hehe. Oh well better safe than sorry.

I woulda thought it was the antibios, my dog has just had big hip surgery and some of the tablets she was taking made white gloop coming from her bits - but she was still weeing (and is spayed) so the vets werent worried - and it eventually went away - but if it was my mare, I would be getting the vet out.

Let us know what happens!
 
Hi, is your horse stabled at uni with you then?
if so i would ring the yard manager and talk to them about it, because if it's anything like the yard at my uni, security was strict so couldnt go walking on the yard to check on them after 9pm.
as flamehead says you'd be so cross with yourself if it was something very serious and turns out very costly because it's been left.

oh posted a bit late, glad your onto the situation. hope it's nothing too serious.
 
Hi guys, my mums just called me from the yard...she said AJ (my horse) has pee'd and seems happy, perky eating polos etc.

Explaining over the phone what mucky shavings are & pee patches was hard & telling her to take the banks down to find any 'sodden' patches, which there was, so phew!

Will be keeping an eye on her incase anything happens, my friends checking on her int he morning etc.

Antibiotics are known for causing yeast infections,which is I'm guessing more what happened to your dog?? (hope she's feeling ok after her surgery BTW),but should cure bacterial infections not cause them,so *shouldn't* be the culprit here.Having said that I'm sure there are many side effects of anti-biotics,and maybe decreased urination is one of them??

Hopefully it won't be anything too much to worry about OP,but I wouldn't let it go on for any extended period of time before at least calling the vet for advice.

hi, yes, im so relieved that she has pee'd hah. My friends going to keep an eye out tomorrow & take her stable apart properally for me...if anyone sees anymore tensing but nothing happeneing...il be getting the vet out to be on the safer side, but all seems good tonight!
