Help me choose a new car please!

Lil background here I currently have a mini cooper diesel which I love but... It is small (duh), I am now driving to work and it's not as comfy/easy to drive as I would like and to top it off, this new London charge on diesel cars is going to cause be a bit of annoyance!!

Soo.. I have decided I want an auto (easier for rush hour traffic), comfy (see previous point), bigger and a petrol other than that I have no idea! I have been looking at the Jeep renegades and quite like the sound/look of them, so if anyone has one can you let me know you thoughts on them?

And if anyone could recommend me something you think I may like it would be greatly appreciated!! (Dad and boyfriend are starting to drive me mad!:oops:)

How big a consideration is price?

I think the Jeep is pretty ugly personally do haven’t taken too much notice of that kind of car.

But for smaller SUVs the new Volvo looks nice!
The Outlander is also a good car.

A budget option, the Ssanygong (or however you spell it!) are high spec for the £

I guess I am looking at a small SUV ihatework, havent seen the new volvo - will have to have a look!!
 
Audi are also expanding their SUV range to include smaller Q models.
VW also have a new small SUV.

Can you tell I’ve been researching this category recently?!

can you give us a budget, daily mileage needed, do you need to tow? can see your in London have you thought about a leaf or tesla? as they have no congestion charge I think. Personally we have a Grand Cherokee for towing trailer but its diesel and I have a small petrol Kia for getting to & from work
 
If you liked your mini the Fiat 500X cross is really nice (its built on the same shassy as the Jeep Renegade so similar size) Its basically a fiat 500 but on steroids!
haha i'm biased as i just got one this week, really really like it!

Wouldn't touch a Dacia with a barge pole. Lowest crash rating. Cheaply made.

What about a Land Rover Discovery, the new ones are nice (baring in mind I am a LR lover) or a new Shogun, the 3dr one they're lovely but pricey yet last.

A new Jeep? Anything new has warranty, I have friends with older Jeeps that are off the road more than on.
 
If you are in London I would get a hybrid. Government give grants for hybrid cars and you will save a huge amount on fuel and tax. Either the Mini Countryman hybrid, or the Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid if you want the SUV.
 
Feel your pain, I dithered for ages on what to change to but knew I wanted a small / medium petrol SUV.

In the end I went for a Seat Ateca and I absolutely love it - enormous boot that swallows a dressage saddle on a saddle mate plus feed buckets, grooming kit, boots etc and still tons of space to spare and nice to drive too.
 
Depending on your budget I I wanted an auto I would go for a Jag F pace or E pace if you want smaller.
They are lovely cars, I don't do autos or I would have one!
I currently have a BMW X3 Msport which is also lovely and very comfortable.

budget is roughly 15k although flexible, I am not needing to tow. Mainly wanting a small SUV for my ever growing portable tack room!

Shooting Star, I have also thought about a Seat Ateca so good to see someone would recommend! Do you have an auto or manual?? another dilemma is my dad has scared be saying newer autos have electric gearboxes and can be unreliable?
 
I have a BMW X1 auto (mine is diesel but petrol also available!)
I love it, the footprint is small but its a bit higher than a normal car, and has the comfort of a big car. Massive boot. Available in 2wd and 4wd models.

I have a manual as I can never get to grips with autos, seem to feel the need to treat the brake like it’s a clutch pedal 😆. Definitely worth adding to the test drive list to see if you like it or not. I replaced my 10yr old car with it and it’s taken a little while to get used to all the extra technology and gadgets but I have grown rather fond of it.

ah ok!! Yeah, I have only ever owned manuals but recently have driven a few autos and kinda fallen in love :D I am test driving a manual tomorrow so we shall see how that goes!
 
I haven't. I haven't even fitted a tow bar yet! My friend tows with hers though and has no issues other than she doesn't find it quite as "sharp" if that makes sense while towing as her last vehicle.... but her previous car was a pickup and a wee yeti is never going to compare to that! She has the 2L 4x4 model too.
 
I switched to an automatic transmission 18 months ago after some knee problems (stop and go traffic was making it so much worse) and ended up buying a Skoda Fabia. It's also my "tack room on wheels", but obviously not SUV sized. However, I tried various makes, and really, really love the DSG transmission it has. It really does shift seamlessly, and has great acceleration. A couple of other cars I tried basically just had a "normal" transition that was doing the shifting automatically, but you'd still have that moment when the car is out of gear while shifting, and you have no control over when it happens in the automatic. One model in particular could never make up its mind whether it wanted to be in third of fourth gear when driving at 40, and kept cutting out to shift up or down at the most inconvenient moments.

In short, make sure to test drive automatic models, and make sure you like the way they shift!
