Help me decide on a new yard (or not!)

I'd move. Don't have to stay forever if it doesn't work out. No where decent to ride is a deal breaker for me! And long walk down dark lanes is both annoying and dangerous!

How come?
Horse is used to 24/7 turnout. How many hours per day turnout would he get when in 'overnight' in winter? Would he actually get turnout every day? Many owners have found that winter turnout disappears at the first drop of rain.
I wouldn't give up 24/7 turnout easily. We changed ours (at home) from in 12 hours overnight in winter to out 24/7/365. They are so much more settled, easier to deal with, manage their own weight better, eat when they want to.

Yes an hour return too. Yes I would be able to use the arena when in as I told them about my worries over the bad weather turnout and they said they that it's when it's the absolute worst weather and not just for a drop of rain which is better.
I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to love it as he really doesn't like being ridden in the rain!
Good decision, sounds great! Let us know how you get on! 😊

Just wanted to update, we moved yards almost two weeks ago and Buzz has settled in perfectly :) he is actually fine in his stable, he has all the horses around him to keep him company which he likes. He even had to stay in the other day when we had bad floods and he didn't have a problem with this at all! No box walking or standing being stressy like he used to.
He was quite tense the first week but he's really relaxed now. He's happy out in the field with his friend but will even just get on with eating if the friend goes in. I went to fetch him in the other night and he was the last one out (aside from a small herd in a field further away - they can get close to Buzz but they were tucked in a bottom corner away from him) and he was fine, just eating! He hasn't spooked at all and he used to spook in the same place every time I brought him in previously :D and we've even managed a solo hack - something he struggled with at the old yard sometimes as he'd get very spooky. The school is amazing, so much space and he loves having a jump in there too.
The hacking is a lot more roadwork than i'm used to but we can go out for hours if we wanted to and I even went to my house at the weekend which was really nice. I'm even enjoying mucking out again!
There's a few little issues that I wasn't aware of (such as the more roadwork) but ultimately I'm glad I moved.
