help me decide what clip......

im undecided at the moment on what clip to give Missy. im clipping next week by the way.

i dont know whether to give her a full or blanket or whatever..

shes in full work at the moment, ridden 6 days a week, jumped once a week, schooled twice a week, one of these sessions is a lesson, and hacking for the rest, our normal hacks are lots of trotting and can be from 1 hour to 2 and a half hours.

however after Christmas, we're upping the work. as she will be hunted a few times, after xmas, my training with Nick Turner starts, so we will have 2 lessons a week, one jumping one flat, lunging and hacking etc.

shes in at night and will be well rugged, she will also be in one horrible days. what would you give her? thanks

How sweaty is she getting?

at the moment, shes getting a sweaty girth area, and on her neck and between her back legs..

she hasnt got much of a winter coat at the moment either, very fine apart from a very slightly fluffy neck.

I always start with minmum clip - I'd probably give her a neck and belly for now and then reassess when you come to up her workload. You will see very quickly if this is enough for her and bear in mind that you can always take off some more!

trace clip, perhaps a high trace- certainly wouldn't take everything off for a horse which is sweating so little.

Mine has a full clip and is in less work then yours, so much easier then trying to do lines

Trace I think personally. You can take more off later.

Do you have your own clippers? If not how many clips do you plan to do? I agree probably start with a high trace then maybe a blanket/hunter clip later on in the year when you increase the workload depending on how sweaty she gets then. I never understand why people do full clips when their horses are only in lightwork (a lot of people I went to equine college with did this).
