Help me find a horsey book!

I'm trying to remember the name of a horsey book I read years ago. I don't know if it was ever released as three books or if it was just a 3 in 1. It was about an aspiring event rider who takes a job with 2 eccentric sisters (when she meets them I see to remember something about a dead mouse as a tea bag ) who have a sort of livery yard/horse hire yard. There's a big grey gelding and a mare with a slipping stifle and the car was called the Shooting Brake.
She buys/is given (I forget) and nice gelding and starts to compete then he's injured in an accident and ends up riding the big grey horse who turns out to be a famous event horse from way back when and is recognised by his former owner an old lady with something wrong with her hands/wrists/part of her body.
Pleeease can someone tell me that it's called as it's driving me mad!

Fantastic book - the Bolter, the Mare who sometimes slipped a stifle, and Legend who simply looked into space (remembering good times past), as well as the bad tempered Chestnut and the Black horse with bad feet. I remember it so well, as I think I have inherited all these horsy types within my own string - including the bay gelding with a hell of a buck!

Never heard of them, might need to order one of Amazon. Did you ever read the ones about Ginny and her arab Shiantih or whatever it was called? I loved those books, that and my Horse Sense magazines. :-D I'm now showing my age.

The Eventer's Trilogy is out of print but there are two "used " copies on Amazon UK

I LOVED the eventers trilogy - god I must have got them out the library a million times and read them over and over and over. I actually bought the three of them a few years ago on amazon market place for a couple of quid each- they are also ex-library books, not in good condition but well loved!


Ahh Elaine, the shooting brake, the mare who slipped a stifle, the comet, the bad tempered chestnut and the gorgeous Another legend - and then the heartbreak when Ann-Marie takes her little hanovarian jumping on hard ground and breaks him god i seriously loved those books - my ten year old city dwelling self was transported to another world and it's one I fell in love with- might have to dig them out again and have a re-read!
