Well I work in a riding school already,but..
There not what im wanting to do.
Ive been there a couple of years and Im wanting to get into showjumping or being a groom.
So i want to gain experience.
Ive thought about it,and its what i want to do
smile.gif

My riding school teacher would just say "no no,stay here" or something like that...
I want the oppourtunity!

im afraid that many people will not want you riding there horses because of your age and insurance purposes. i think your only best hope is to go to different yards and ask around... even if it means stable duties for a lesson. better than nothing. but i might be wrong. good luck x

Fingers crossed that you will find a nice yard to help out at. My OH and I have 3 horses at home and a neighbour's daughter (now 14, but was only 11 when she started) used to come and hack out with us on my welsh cob who was getting a bit bored with life in the field. TBH she could have done a lot more if she had been keen enough, I certainly would have let her jump him etc if she had been more capable, and even take her to the odd RC competition, so don't let people use your age as an excuse.
Be very honest though with the experience you have had and the type of horses you are used to riding, as I know that personally I would rather be asked a question rather than find out a task had been done incorrectly/unsafely.
Best of luck in finding somewhere nice.

Fiona

Thankyou Fiona

I thought nobody would want me before..

Yeah,i started riding at 2.
Im very keen, ive ridden all sorts of horses..
Problem horses, horses that rear, buck, spook, and I was offered a horse to ride when i was 11.
I brought her back in to work, and gradually taught her how to jum, and to listen. She was a real challenge, the first big thing really. It was on my own, because the owners didnt have time for the horse.
And ive looked after them for about.. 4 years.
Diffrent ones. Field kept,a showjumper, riding school, bossy cobs that want hay...

Get someone to check the spelling if looks more professional if it is correct. How about

WORK WITH HORSES WANTED
Keen responsible teenager seeks work with horses in return for rides.
Has 11 years riding experience.
Willing to do any stable chores or look after horses while you are away.
No payment required, just the chance to help you excercise your horse.
Must be local to ...............................
Phone: ..............................................

Might be better to just put teenager in case people think 13 is too young, and I wouldn't put 13 year old girl in case you get any weirdos calling. If someone you don't know calls take your Mum or dad when you go to see them.
Good Luck

Do you think you could get a reference from the riding school or from the person who's horse you brought on? I think that could help a lot for people worried about your age.

Thats a good advert idea
laugh.gif

Thankyou!
My dad will be coming with me to check out wherever people ask me to go
smile.gif

yeah, maybe ill ask the woman whose horse i brought on for a reference

I got 2 sharers when they were aged 13...Just the same as you, they finally persuaded their parents to let them put an ad in the tackshop + the parents agreed cos they didn't think they'd get any replies!!

They were both conscientious & responsible, & after a settling in period, I let them do what they wanted with the 2 ponies I had at the time, go to comps, take them to lessons etc...+ even let them have a sit on my comp horse now & then if they'd been good!!

They got free riding in exchange for tidying up around the yard, etc. So don't give up!

One thing I would say - you HAVE to turn up when agreed. No feeble excuses re your dad couldn't give you a lift / you lost the owner's tel no etc. My horses were unfed one am & left to swelter in their rugs by a different set of 'helpers' & I got rid of them straight away.

Good luck!

Yeah, the reason why it has to be in my village is so if my parents cant take me,I can walk myself
smile.gif

Parents have agreed to let me do weekends because I dont have any homework and I dont do anything but shop normally... (which i hate!)
I want to do this because Im really liking the idea of competing. Ive done a couple, but not big ones.
Like, ive done an intermediate level dressage test when a judge came to the school one day,and I got 89%
smile.gif

And then I came 5th out of about 45 in my first SJ competition on a chubby cob :P
They were really fun,I just love being around them!

Hi, looks good but its not very clear wether you want a job or want a horse to exercise if you get what i mean?? I think its a great idea, ive always ridden other peoples horses and only been at a proper riding school (working and riding) for a year out of the 10years ive been riding. if you find somewhere/one good its fantastic (there are so many generous people out there) but one word of warning (something i wish someone had told me) some people let you ride their lunatic horses because they want a dummy to put on their backs whilst other people want you to work and only let you ride minimal amounts. Ive had some bad experiences and although i learnt a lot out of them, it is not something that i would wish on anyone else. Horsemad teenagers can be a bit too willing lol when it comes to the neddies. sorry to ramble, hope ive made sense. pm me if you like!!

Perfect sense!
I want to work on weekends, but ride aswell.
Work in exchange for rides i suppose
smile.gif

Yeah, ill ask about the horse/s before I go.
My dad wouldnt let me ride a crazy horsey :P
Id probably look after it first, get to know it.
If i thought it was insane,id say i couldnt ride it
smile.gif
hehe!

I think its definetly possible, but will be hard work to get a job, I know people say dont let your age stop you but you cannot control other peoples opinions

Also insurance nowadays means many people are dubious about people exercising there horses. Is there not a riding school near you that is more jump focused or something like that?

No sadly
frown.gif

Im putting my adverts out today
smile.gif

All the riding schools round here are for little kids that want to just pleasure ride. Thats what I work at now.
I want something with more of a.. goal maybe at the end of it.
