I'm having one of those 'I feel useless days'!!

Had my IH instructor out again today and she did some join up with Aleeta. It went really well. The only problem is that whenever I take her in the school (and only in the school) she rears. Instructor saw it happen today and gave me advice on how to deal with it which I tried to put into place but found it hard. This instructor is usually hands on and was itching to show me how to sort it but due to a back injury she is unable to do any direct handling. The join up was great and she wants to come back and continue with this. My dilema is that I'm not really happy paying an instructor to come and give me advice when she can't show me what she means. Its like having someone teach you when they can't get on and ride to show you what they mean. This instructor is also very expensive at £53 for an hour, and always finishes on the dot. The way I see it is I have 3 options

1) Keep with this instructor and hope that you understand and can impliment what she is saying regardless of price
2) Find a new one but another IH instructor is further away which will cost more
3) Send her away to one recommended by a friend who I have seen working and looks good. Price is £130 per week with an hours work each day and an hours lesson each week.

Which do I go for? I don't want to seem like I'm coping out by going for option 3 but financially this is the cheaper option.

How many weeks do you think option 3 would take? It sounds like it would be a good plan, except that if it is particularly your school where she rears it would be better to have the teaching include your school.

send her away only if you think that the problem lies with the horse and not JUST with the "horse + you" pairing.

If it is the latter then when horsey returns from away training and is with you on her own she could revert to her old/current habits.

If it is just that she needs to be trained and will then behave with anyone including you then go for no. 3 as you are inclined to.

Stick with no. 1 if it is only or mainly you that she misbehaves with...

my only worry would be that you are now starting to get somewhere with you are then going to make a sudden change, her can you not persevere a little longer.
remember you haven't had her that long and she hadn't done much (i think i'm right in this??) maybe it's too fast for her ,let her have a few weeks break .
good luck with her, just try to see how far you have come it's easy to forget this.

Your right I know. Its so easy to just see the huge steps she has made in a short space of time and want to do more more more. Have been advised to carry on with what I am doing but give her a break from work in the school for a while. Might try this over next few weeks then see how she is. I seriously do need someone to give me some direction with her though and feel that the person I have been using so far is not going to help an awful lot with the back op she is going to be having. I know though that when I go to take her back in the school I will be sh**ing myself thinking that she is going to start rearing again.

Dunno whether this will help or not but I know of a IH lady in West Sussex who does travel.

Not entirely sure on costs, but pm me if you want her name/website etc

If the lady can't instruct you because of back issues I don't think you should be giving her your money TBH!
I suspect these are her normal rates when she is fully functional so why should you be paying for half the service so to speak? I would try someone else, especially if she will be out for a while
