My old dog is not very good on his legs now. The step from the garden is slippy with ice. Can he climb up carefuly? No. Must jump up as usual. Back legs slip of step, and he's down on his belly on the step. Lies there looking at me, 'help me mother'. I lift up the back end, the front legs do the splits. Drop the back end again, and call for help to lift him in. Read something on line about wearing socks over your shoes to stop you slipping, He wont wear socks. Brainwave - put a towel on the step. Worked like magic. Jumps in and out no bother.

I cut short a walk last night with my young dog as she was jumping about and doing the splits on her hind legs and it's just not worth the risk of injury.
Longer term, you could look at rubber matting or just a few cheap door mats or car mats to place on the step and around that area to improve grip.
