Because im now single and stuck in my current house for a while i need to move my boy closer to me so i am fairly limited because of spaces/money and travelling (as little as possible)

I have found two yards very local:

Yard One:

0.8 miles/2 mins
Adequate school with OK surface
Barn type stables
Brilliant Hacking
Grazing good and on a very steep hill, 10 minute uphill walk to summer field, winter field closer but still uphill.

6.9 miles to local RC meets (would have to box there)
YO leaves alot to be desired but providing your out of his way you rarely get any problems, also the local Huntsmaster so its a very typical hunting yard.

Summer: 24/7 TO @ £16pw
Winter: In at night @ £37 pw (incl. hay/straw and haylege)

Seperate tack room/Feed room/Owners onsite.

Yard Two:

3.2 miles/7 mins
Adequate school with a nice surface
Stone stables
Brilliant hacking
Grazing good, winter fields on a hill and close but summer fields are a 20 min trek up a very steep hill onto 70 acres to find said horse.. most people drive there 4x4s up there to find the horse and lead him back that way.

Local RC 4.3 miles (have to box there)

YO seems lovely, very easy going but im only going on first impressions.

No-one attends any local RC stuff, most people are happy hackers and quite alot of children around (not sure if thats good or bad)

Feed room/ Tack room

Summer: £20pw 24/7 TO
Winter: £30pw in at night (incl. hay and straw)

HELP ME!!!

I have been at a yard which had a 20 minute uphill trek to bring in/turn out, and it had an adverse effect - it's hard to motivate yourself sometimes!

Sounds like you're newly single - maybe consider the yard which is friendliest/most helpful/best social life? Also, are you going to be competing as much, or limited to just hacking due to lack of time or funds?

Sorry, not much help, just given you more to think about!

Personally, I think I would choose yard 1, its closer and having to trek up a very steep hill isn't ideal at all really at Yard 2

Its probably going to work out pretty similar in price, and I think that its better to have them close to home and have to box a bit further, plus I think I prefer american barn stables

Good luck whichever you move to

Just to add- having been at a yard that you have to walk 20 mins to the furthest field, and that was flat, it adds on so much time!! I'm moving from that yard tomorrow to a yard where the fields are like right there, can't wait haha!!

Funds are limited, rather than low as such..

I want to be competing more but to give an idea due to my recent singleness i've had to sell my car and buy a bigger one for the dogs i was left with: thought i might aswell kill two birds with one stone and by a SWB 4x4. (I got a shogun)

My current yard is 20 miles away so 40miles round trip- even before i changed my car this is still a heafty amount each week and it became cheaper for me to pay them to do him than travel up myself etc.
-Having him closer (and yards here are cheaper anyway) would save alot of money.

Yard 1 - 20 mins in the rain on the flat is bad enough (did it for years!) but make that up a steep hill and forget it. You may be able to drive up one way (and then leave your car there while you bring horse back and ride?) but you still have to walk the other 20 mins with the horse, guess you could ride, but down a steep hill bareback sounds like a recipe for diaster to me.

YO may be not great personality wise, but I am guessing as huntmaster he will know a hell of a lot - a great knowledgable YO can save you a fortune in vets bills! Just pay your bills on time and keep yourself to yourself where he is concerned.

Def would go for 1st one, like said before a huntmaster for YO would know a lot, and hunting yard would be great!

Also you could walk there in the summer at that distance from home so would save you a bit on petrol!

YARD 1 - couldn't face a 40min walk round trip just to get the horse in. Also the sound of all those people/kids is very offputting but then I'm anti-social !

Yard one definitely - you might meet lots of young farmer types! Seriously 20mins walk there and back x 2 sounds like wasted time to me - think of all the other nicer things you could be doing.

Yard 1, my sisters horses turnout is a 12 min walk from the yard and its a pain in the arse!

You wont know yourself having the horse so close to home as well

Good luck whatever you choose tho x

Yard one, because you might meet a handsome young and rich country bumpkin who is down from his country mansion for the week and is borrowing a hireling

On a serious note, I would go for the first, the walk to fields is a nightmare

Actually, are you 100% certain that there's enough turnout at yard 1? Only because I know 2 years ago there were probs with it (girl moved from there to our yard), they weren't out 24/7 in July. Plus, is the winter turnout good, as in, do they always get turned out during the day because that could sway it for me?

Im 100% certain on yard one as i used to be there myself a few years ago and according to the YO nowt has changed apart from the prices and some flood lights.

They have two HUGE fields, one summer, one winter both are on a hill anyway but we're talking some heafty acreage there aswell. The YO told me the horses are out 24/7 from end of april.

They only have a set amount of stables (12 or 14 i think) and dont do grass livery so including there own horses (3 last time i checked) your looking at a max of 20 horses on at least double the amount of land.

2,being happy is the most important thng and if your first impresion was of a relaxed, happy place it probably is!
The uphill walk will just keep you super fit
