I am looking for 2 new horses and wondered if anyone wanted to help me shop? Both must be in South East - Kent, Surrey and East Sussex.

Horse 1 - gelding preferred, although mare considered if perfect. Age 3-5, must be backed. 14.2 - 16.2hh. Non cobby type preferred, although cobs considered if perfect. To do unaffiliated comps eventually and low level affiliated. Budget as low as possible - around £1000 perfect.

Horse 2 - Yearling colt or gelding - no fillies at all as we have a colt that he will live with. To make 15hh plus and be a weight carrier. To be general riding horse and happy hacker. Budget around £500, although less preffered!

Have been having a hunt around, but have never bought with such a tiny budget before so not sure where to start looking! Both are going to be projects so can be quite flexible with what sort of horse it is. No fillies for the yearling though! But may consider 2 year olds!

For horse 1, would an ex racehorse suit? I have a friend in the racing industry and she might well know of some straight off the track in the south east?

Might be worth calling these people

http://irishhorseimports.co.uk/

They may have well have something they would consider a project for that money - it will prob be around the 15 hand mark but if they get something in that seems a little feral or is too poor, they do consider those to be projects and sell on for that price bracket. It will be young, it won't be dangerous - if they get something which they consider dangerous it does get shipped back to Ireland again. We saw a stunning gray there which they wouldn't show us as they said they weren't going to put their name to it.Not a massively smart yard but very straightforward people, horses in from ireland all the time and a complete lack of b&&l!!If you ring and they save they have a couple, its worth the trip over to Pangbourne. we bought 2 would be eventers from there and a project pony. PP is staying put a bit longer as keeps getting better (proper WHP type), YO has just taken her baby event horse to Gatcombe for BYEH and I happy admit I was too chicken to take mine for the 5 year old class. He is more than capable but I am not - yet! Ours weren't projects but fairly priced for nice just backed babies.

Yes, I would consider that. Never had an ex racer before, but I'm not a numpty and have plenty of help available if need be.

I miss having ex racers - much as I like my heffalump WB she isn't a snappy little tb! Would you like ne to ask my friend?

OK guys, how about the yearling? Where should I look for bargains? Even better if someone would fine some for me as I'm at work at not meant to be on here ;)
