It's been a while since we did prelims as nervous horse has been stuck in intros and RC intro to canter while he gets more confident. About to do our second this week, Prelim 1 2024. Am I right in thinking Prelim 1 used to be Prelim 2 (2016)? And now another change - Prelim 1 (2024) - is this just about collectives? I don't want to buy a whole new set of dressage sheets but am confused! Can anyone clarify?

Thanks, will do. Any idea why BD keep changing the numbers? It's annoying!
To clear them all up and make them more consistent through the levels - Prelim to Medium all have 6 tests each (numbered 1 - 6). 1 - 3 are short arenas and 4 - 6 are long arenas. 5 and 6 are the championship tests in each (Area Festival and Regionals).

Think there’s only been the ‘24 changes to test numbers 🤔 and now presented as GreyDot has said above.
I believe the original idea of changing the tests/ numbers in 2024, was to aid progression.

There were lots of 'discontinued' tests so they renumbered them all (and merged some I think?) to avoid confusion and venues selecting tests that no longer exist. I do think it's a bit simpler now that every level starts at 1. Having done my first test in 2 years yesterday I can say thought that I'm not a massive fan of P1. It's not very logical to me so I found it really hard to learn!

i hate prelim 2, to say they’re supposed to get harder as they go up i think it’s bloody awful for the 2nd one😂

The walk in P1 is so weird, short diagonal in medium walk followed by half circle free walk on a long rein and the immediately back across the short diagonal in medium walk. It feels like you're doing one of those puzzles where you have to complete the drawing without going over any of the lines twice!

I think that was the one where I had to ask on here how you did the turn back across the short diagonal. Was it hit track and almost pivot or a stride on track or, or, .....

It feels like a big step up in the canter work from prelim 1 to prelim 3. We qualified for an unaffiliated champs with 2 x Prelim 1 tests then had my first attempt at prelim 3 for the actual champs. Wasn't great! Rather a lot for my little brain to remember.

The collective marks have changed from rythym , suppleness , contact , rider position and riders results to
Paces, impulsion, co operation and rider position and seat
My instructor said the new.collectives asked for more …
