[ QUOTE ]
It is a bit gross, but I think I'd be tempted to do the same. Poor tinks!

[/ QUOTE ]Indeed - but then it didn't stop Tinks doing it!!

To be fair to him he does if he see's it - however sometimes he's down the stairs and straight out the door - then I let dogs out 5mins later....

[/ QUOTE ] It's amazing how men have the ability to totally ignore the smell of poo and pee and say later on "Oh - I didn't notice"
mad.gif
. Mind you I had the last laugh one morning when OH came downstairs in his bare feet and walked across the kitchen without switching the light on - and walked right through the old dog's mess
shocked.gif
! Did you know it takes ages to get dog poo from out between your toes
crazy.gif

[/ QUOTE ] You're lucky then - our old rescue dog with the dodgy tum used to do the most disgusting loose slops which stunk to high heaven

. Needed a scarf over my nose to clear them up.

[/ QUOTE ]NICE!!!

No no didnt mean that was just thinking on how you could cut down on volume of poo
smile.gif

Failing that it maybe a case of no poo on last garden visit means he doesnt get back in the house till he performs? Lots of hanging around though..
crazy.gif
can you let them out seperately so he can erm.. 'concentrate'?

... and because our house is quite open plan the smell would often waft up to our bedroom. We would wake up to the delightful aroma of dog mess and realise he had done it again
crazy.gif
.

It did get a lot better when we changed his feed and feeding routine, but then his was not a scent marking thing but mainly a dodgy tum and separation anxiety.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes this is possible - but he tends to hang around at the back door - so less likely to go TBH!!

[ QUOTE ]
When we first had Tun and it was his turn to do 'breakfast' i would often lie in bed chuckling to myself as sounds of violent retching drifted up from the kitchen

[/ QUOTE ]Oh bless!!

What about if you chaperone him? I always stand at the door and watch the monster when he goes out for 'busys' last thing (well everytime really I like to check on consistency/quantity!)

What a nightmare for you, our only problem at the moment is early mornings!

[/ QUOTE ]Hmm I did do this but he just sticks near you!! He won't go off and have a whoopsie!! grr!!

Re: the weeing - I walked and walked and walked my lab - preferably off her own territory as late as possible at night until she wee'd! Took a while but she improved no end - also improved when she wasn't confined - does he have to be in the cage?

Or you wake up in the middle of the night and smell it, and lie there thinking 'should I clear it up now, because the smell is really keeping m awake, but OH is fast asleep and if I start putting lights on and clattering around with a bucket he'll wake up, or should I leave it to cool off and form a crust to make it easier to remove...' Then you drift off back to sleep, but in the morning it's still there!

How about removing the water bowl an hour or so before bedtime. I would also try a 'better' type of food. I've heard there is more 'wastage' with some of the common type brands. I've heard brands such as Hills are good for house training puppies because there is more goodness in them, therefore less is needed and there is less to poop out if that makes sense!! Also, can you not walk the dogs last thing instead of just letting them in the garden. They usually pee alot more on walks because of all the smell and scents they come across...

Hi, don't know if this would be any help but could you take your dogs for a short 'walk' every evening at 11:00. I know it is a pain but if they go for a walk it is more likely to get everything moving and you won't get the 'standing around at the door' thing when you put them out last thing (my whippets are devils for this lol).

I don't think I would deny breakfast to a dog that had had an accident because I don't think they are smart enough to make the link. But could you feed the 'main' meal at the beginning of the day and just a handful of biscuits in the evening?

Also if your OH won't consider castration for his dog, then it is only fair that he clears up all the mess/does the last thing at night walk. I know it isn't that easy with men (!

) but I think he needs to take a bit more responsibility for the problem.

It doesn't sound very nice for your other dog (poor well behaved chap) - is is possible to seperate them, maybe have the younger dog in your room on the floor or something?

dunno, probably not much help - good luck though

[/ QUOTE ]I have been removing the water - but TBH he doesn't tend to drink overnight/evening anyways

[/ QUOTE ]The problem being is cost - There is no way I can afford a tin of hills which is almost twice the price of current feed!!!

[/ QUOTE ]This is an option... but TBH a hassle! Yes yes I know it's part of the responsibility of having a dog - but it boils down to .. he's not MY dog he's my OH's so HE should walk him!!

[/ QUOTE ]He's not totally denied breakfast - he will just recieve biscuits instead of biscuits and meat... he does know when he has done wrong as he will skulk around - whereas if he has been good he doesn't.

[/ QUOTE ]Weeellll...

I moved Finn away from Tinker cage - he is now by the radiator/back door - out of peeing distance!! LOL - I have also put a strip of Tin foil around the 'favoured' peeing area of Tinkers cage.... I gave them dinner at 5.30 lastnight instead of 7pm and this morning - NO WASTE!!!!!!!! Woohooo - fingers crossed it continues this way!!

I've heard the opposite about Hills... and it's expensive LOL!

KJFIT - well done on last night's success!! YAY!!!!!!!!
Hope this sorts it out xx

Maybe he could go out for a mini walk at night to get things moving through better then perhaps he would empty himself better before bedtime? If he's anything like my lurcher he'll always have a little bit more wee left for scenting on a walk!

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah the cost is a factor - if I could afford to buy it I would have infact stayed with Nature Diet!!
