I have had horses for over 38 years so not a complete novice and competed for many a year over that period of time in showing (mostly) wh, gymkhanas, handy pony and hacking. In 2011 I had a big heart attack and brain injury and it was touch and go I would still be hear to by typing this. Anyway I got myself 4 years ago a 3 year old Welsh Section D and backed her. She is only 14.2 so I am not talking about trying to get on a massive horse. But I am really struggling to get on her without some assistance. I would really want to be able to do it myself. I know not ideal to mount her from the ground and have tried to get her to go along side a mounting block but she wont or I cant get her to do that. I was looking if someone could tell me some exercises to help strengthen my "bounce off the ground" to get on her. Or tips to help me get her to sidle up to the block. Been on youtube and cant seem to find much to actually teach them what to do. She threw me off a few months ago when I was trying to get on so I think that is in the back of my mind and not helping much at all. I have had her saddle and back checked so they are all ok.
