Hello,

Well after quite a few months of having a (almost) model dog...after working through various issues such as recall....our dog has suddenly regressed and it seems almost out of the blue is being so naughty. All advice welcome.

In brief she is a collie terrier rescue dog, 2 and a half years old. She is fab in many ways, a really lovely bouncy but very soft temperment and very submissive with other dogs and we have never seen even one ounce of temper or agression ever (so in lots of ways she is the perfect dog). I walk her at least an hour and ahalf a day and we do flyball which she is really good at and loves.

Just this week she has started doing all sorts of things that she hasn't done since she was a puppy and it seems like she is doing it to get our attention, she has been climbing the dog gate at night to run around upstairs and then won't come back down (hiding under the beds and jumping all over playing catch). When we tell her off she hides under the sofa and won't come back out. In fact all of today she has been totally ignoring me calling her and she is usually really responsive and well behaved about the house. Just now she has been trying to jump on the sofa all of the time while I am sitting here and jumped straight on when we just got in from a walk ( a nice long walk - hour and a half with lots of doggy pottering time built in) and a ball game in the garden before that.)

Other things she has been doing - stealing things and running off with them, trying to sit on my sons bouncy chair. She also seems to be very very sensitive at the moment, I put her in her crate earlier today when the gas man called (otherwise she bounces all over and gets in the way) and normally this would be fine but today she was shaking and panting.

When she escaped upstairs we had to close her in the kitchen over night so we didn't get dive bombed but she just cried and cried and got in a right state.

It feels 50% missbeviour and 50% anxiety but I could be wrong.

The only things I can think is that she is having a delayed reaction to our baby (born in May) although she has been and still is fab with him and I include her in baby things like having her sit with us when I feed the baby (at a respectful distance) and praising her all of the time she shows gentle behaviour with him)...the only other thing is we were on holiday last week staying in a cottage which is a change.

In general she seems to be reacting in a more and more anxious way to things, she used to travel so well but now gets extremely anxious unless we have her crated by the window so she can see her surroundings.

Any ideas....sorry this has ended up being long!

Hi,

Yes she has been spayed, that's interesting though about phantom pregnancy...do you think she could still have this even if she has been spayed? She is just seems so anxious, she is just craving attention all of the time and it is just out of the blue really

could it be anything to do with nov 5th?? delayed reaction......my lurcher hates fireworks, loud noises, gunshot etc and since 5th nov has been much more sensitive to any slight noise which is out of the ordinary(today next door neighbour was moving furniture and she got really worried ) this happens every year and she gradually gets better, then we have new year!!!! it starts again and then finally she gets back to normal(for her). have you tried a herbal calmer for yours? she may just need a calmer to help her cope with things....

If it's possible, a 45 minute walk first thing in the morning and 45 minutes as late as you can in the afternoon might help with her behaviour.

Thanks for the messages, she is much better tonight. I have stepped up her exercise a bit and we went to flyball today too which got rid of some energy. I think it might be our boiler...sounds wierd I know but it has been breaking lately and making loud noises and we noticed she has been jumping each time it makes a noise...and she panics at bed time if we try and put her in the kitchen (with the boiler) . Last night we put the stair gate at the top of the stairs instead of the bottom as she jumped the bottom gate and she slept on the top step and seemed much better for a good nights sleep. SO fingers crossed she in on the mend...she is a sensitive little thing
