Too ...Much...Grass!

Wish the HOT, DRY weather would hurry up... got too much lush green damp grass.
I'm not happy with filly... she has suddenly developed a 'bit of a neck'.. fingers crossed I'm worrying about nothing, but gone has the weedy pony and in comes the big strong 2year old! Thought her front feet were a bit warmer, not much but just a bit.

I've been strip grazing them for weeks now. The patch they are in suddenly seems to have gone crazy, what was eaten down has now grown... so today I've stripped them right back again! They were not happy, but it is the best I can do until I sort out stabling - and possibly adding a cow or two to their patch for a day or so..

Anyone else struggling with too much Dr Green?

Yep - muzzling during the day when the sugars are highest, off at night on bare bit with hay. ;)

Yes,they have destroyed the winter paddock which was like a swamp.I have had to move them both onto a new field .Knobberpony is fine on new grass [if a little 'lively'],but newboy has had EMS so I have to be very careful with him.He has started off with a half hour on it,and was on it for an hour tonight.I'm hoping knobberpony will graze the best of the grass off in the next few days so he can go back out again.I wish it would dry up a bit.

Glad it isn't just me...
I've thought about a muzzle, but as she is 2, she is into everything... and if she can't get it off, I'm convinced she will end up caught up somewhere. The fencing is crap.... and I can see disaster now.

No! I am desperately watching my fields for any signs of growth! Feel free to send spare grass my way ;) Where are you guys based?

We have divided our field up ready to strip graxe for the summer. They have small amount of hay morning and night but should be able to stop that soon at this rate :) they are not hanging around at the gate now so I know it definately coming through.

Dont be complaining. Very poor grass growth here (South of Ireland). It's been too cold for good grass growth so far and now everywhere is swamped with rain. I should be turning my boy out this weekend for the summer but he's still rugged at night as temperatures low and there isn't enough grass in the fields so grass livery isn't an option yet. Hoping things will improve now and I can start leaving him unrugged at night and grass will start to grow the way it's supposed to in May.

We have too much grass! The ponies are FULL of the joys of spring! They've had to stand in every day just to keep them from stuffing themselves allllll day. We play for the first time this season tomorrow, I will be hanging onto my neck strap, muttering a silent prayer and hoping the green green grass hasn't completely gone to their heads!
