I'm really worried as my horse is really cold. He told me so this morning. I tried to help by putting my duvet on him and then few sheets of tarpaulin.

Now I'm cold.

Anyway, I've tried feeding more bran mash, muesli and he gets through a whole haylage bale a day. It doesn't seem to help. Everyday, he stands at the gate making me feel guilty. His belly is so huuuuge!!! But he's so skinny.

I hate winter. I've never had a winter so bad before. Infact, I've never had a winter. My horse can't walk now because it has four foot stacks of snow in its hooves. I've called the back man and he says it's a foot problem so I called the farrier. He put another set of shoes on the ones he put on last week because he had laminitis. It hasn't helped at all. I'm thinking of going barefoot and just using socks.

Now I can't ride him and because of that I'm now clinically obese so i can't ride him at all even though he's a shire x shetland.

What am I to do?

Someone said, just breed from him. I'm not sure if I should because that would mean finding his balls and I'm not sure my vet keeps them after the three year period...

Anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I also have a horse that moans constantly. :( To make matters worse she is a fashion victim/princess type and wont come in her stable because 'it's the wrong colour' (what does she want.... flowery wallpaper and curtains?) and will only wear certain rugs because she 'doesn't like the feel of the fabric' of some of the others. It's very frustrating, I almost lost fingers due to frostbite because she faffed about so much, instead of eating up her tea quickly the other night.

PS. I hope the vet can reattach his bits for you.

So sorry to hear about your horse.
My horse told me he was uncomfortable in his bed, so i gave him some pillows, The vet said he had Cushions syndrome.

Sadly, they accidentally defrosted in his Audi Allroader becuase he forgot to switch his blowers off. We had a cuppa anyway and discussed black market AI instead aswell as treating him for Arctic-Grass syndrome.

Please make sure you spray his bedding with something warm to encourage him to lie down but on the other hand don't make it tasty otherwise he might eat his bedding and that wont do!

I have solved this problem by dragging an old oil drum into Fleur's stable, piling some wood into it & setting it alight, I will pop down before bed to stoke it up. It will be lovely for her to be able to huddle up to a nice fire, my YM told me it was dangerous, but I can't see what the problem with an open fire in a stable is, some people are over cautious...

ok ok you guys just wet self laughing but mmmmm i have 1 thats a bit woooshish lol where little lass is a true strong woman "man flu pah whats that" lol

LOL very very funny :-)

Got a king size bed in stable for my lad, i can see him now snuggled up under the duvet with his hot water bottle, cosyyyyy :-)

I can't believe you lot are happy to let your horses rough it over the winter.
Mine hate snowy, soggy hooves and refuse to eat the grass as as it makes their noses cold.
They always winter in the Canaries..

You've just made me feel like a very bad mummy... :(:(

cant you bring him inside in front of the fire?? Thats what we've done with ours...

Mine won't fit through the door....his tummy got stuck. I've upped his feed to make him grow faster so that his tummy goes back in proportion to the rest of him.

In the meantime I have lagged and insulated his stable and am currently having under floor heating installed in his paddock.

Pink fluffy bedsocks or purple with crystals?
