Ive taken a horse on loan that is fab in loads of ways except this mounting issue. He will regularly turn into a bucking bronco when im getting on but once im on and get him moving he settles down. Had his back checked so next will be checking his saddle apart from that dont know what else to do! Any suggestions? :o

I would say he is cold backed, you need the saddle to fit perfectly (obviously) and maybe either lunge him or walk him around with the saddle on before you get on.

My advice...from experience..

Get the saddle checked and use a really thick, comfy, warm saddle cloth helps, just try and chill him out and warm him up as much as possible before sitting on him.

Hi sounds like he is cold backed. Id get saddle checked. Then tack him up leave girth loose put bridle on and boots etc. so he gets use to saddle slowly tighten girth as you go then, turn him in tight circles, then lean arcoss still turning circles then throw your leg over, then he Mite be be better. Basicaly just do everything slowly (saddlewise).
I ride racehorses and i ave two like that the one i lean over do two laps of the school then get on and he is perfect and the other i get legup and led round in small cirles and he ok ish!!.
Also big comfy nummah and soft girth sleeve so he aint got a reason.
Goodluck!!

my friends horse did this and she was said to be cold backed. she used a thick polypad and lunged the horse with the saddle on before she got on and it solved the problem.

I presume you are getting on from a mounting block and not the ground? sorry if you said that already my mind is hazed with painkillers!!

I tried leaning over him and he panicked and bolted! Was thinking of getting him a wintec with the cair system as the saddle he came with is old and dont think its worth getting it re-flocked ect.
