Help!! My horse is lame ......

I have brought my horse in from the field and he is lame on his front leg.....

He has an egg like lump between his knee and fetlock, on the inside.. It is very warm to touch around lump area and up to knee... When I touch, he is lifting his leg....

He has done quite a bit of work this weekend, he was fine this morning!!

Any advice would be great....
 
Cold hose it for 20 mins as many times a day as you can until the heat has gone and box rest him. Could be a splint or a tendon problem, hopefully nothing like a fracture if he is still weight bearing well. Hard to tell without seeing it. Your vet will be able to check it out and give you the best advice/ treatment and pain killers and anti inflammatories, if suitable, to bring the swelling down. I wouldnt turn him out again until the vet has checked him. Hope he gets better soon! Sending healing vibes.
 
Sound like it might be a broken splint bone because the lump is so big and on the inside. He may have kicked it. They can mend or he might need the broken end taken out.
 
Hard to say without seeing it but sounds like a simple splint. He could have done it hooning around the field. How old is he? Cold hose it and hopefully once the swelling has gone there will only be a small bony lump left.
 
As munchkin says, sounds like a simple splint. They are relatively common in hard working younger horses which is why munchkin was asking your horse's age. Just to be sure, you need to rule out other things so I'd probably get the vet out. Splints do settle with time but you might need to cut your ned's work for a while.
