Been to check my horse and he has a hard lump the size of my hand spread out if not slightly bigger! It appears to have two small black marks in the middle, I am wondering if this could be a snake bite and if so what should I do? Or could it be something else any help would be much apreciated.
Thanks

If you really think is a snake bite call vet for antibiotics (risk of bacterial infection from fang wounds) and maybe antivenom serum. There again may be reaction to fly bites my old Arab has lumps the size of dinner plates and vet was not amused at being called out after hours for fly bites!

Id call the vet round sharpish just to be on the safe side. Better to catch these things (if its anything serious) at the beginning.

Keep us updated:-)

He is covered in fly bites at the momement but none of them are anywhere near as big as this one. Oh dear surreydeb a grumpy vet is not what you need lol!! I think I will go and inspect it again and see if I can see what the 2 black marks are. I have never seen a fly bite this big but reasuring to hear that some of you have before. thanks

My old cob got bitten by a snake out on a hack once, within two hours he had swollen up so much his eyes shut and his sheath swelled so much he couldn't put it away. He got steroids, antibiotics and was then OK. If it doesn't change much maybe try touching the black spots and if they are firm take the heads off? A horse on our yard got stung by a bee and swelled up massively, picking the sting out worked (looked like a black dot) :)
