help needed about worms please!

im posting this on behalf of a friend, she asked but i honestly had no idea.

shes has her horse on a herbal wormer (no verms) and hes been on this wormer for years without a problem. but the other day, her horse seemed uncomfortable and was swishing his tail about. so she investigated and found a worm coming out of him bum (sorry to be graphic) so she pulled it out and he imediatly relaxed again. it was around an inch or so long. she hasnt found any worms in the poo, other then one but it was dead. shes now worried that the wormer isnt working. i sugested a worm count but she also asked for me to put this up for any other opinions??

A worm count would be the best thing but will not pick up tapeworm needs a blood test for that! Then u will find how affective the wormer is I'm not sure about resistance and herbal wormers? I'm having a bit of trouble with pinworms at the moment although they are harmless do cause irritation and stick around the bottom, your friends horse may have the same?
