Hi guys. Need your help (and apologise in advance if this has already been covered recently but haven't been in stable yard for a while)

I have been notified by a spillers stockist that this is definitely on the way out. If local supplies are finished then there won't be any more. This local stockist asked the spillers rep what was the alternative to be told Happychaff. Like right - happy chaff is a totally different type of feedstuff fed for a different purpose.

Now I live in NI, so can't get Saracen/Simple systems as they simply aren't stocked over here.

Can anyone suggest an alternative to readigrass (made by one of the main feed companies). I would use about a bag a week as have 3 horses on it, so not big enough quantities to warrant buying a whole pallet or anything, but something with a good feed value, papatable and easy to get hold of!

Am completely disillusioned with spillers as well BTW, why withdraw something in the middle of the winter for god's sake, had problems getting in past years which we had solved by buying in about 15-20 bales at a time, but this has taken us by surprise this year.

Would also be interested to hear if anyone has challenged spillers about this, and what was their response.

Am grateful as always for any help!!

The problem is location I'm afraid. We have used the badminton horse feeds one - that's graze on isn't it one winter when the readigrass ran out (spillers didn't harvest enough).

Only the main badminton stockist would help us, he ordered in one pallet and we had to buy I think 20 bales at a time. He was 25 miles away and we had to collect. Other badminton stockists refused to help. I actually complained about this to the company owner at Badminton one year on the stand, that anyone who advertizes themselves as a stockist should have two stock more than just 2 types of their mix.

I can try the same thing again (this was about 4 years ago) and see if things have changed.

Do Baileys make a grass chaff, as we have quite a good baileys stockist nearby.

Thanks reashi and castle mouse.

Only Jollys and Pets at home listed as stockists though.

Spillers really have a bit of a monopoly in NI (except if looking for a basic mix then there are planty to choose from.

Fingers crossed they will have a stockist in NI or at least push to find one if they know there is a demand
