Help needed ASAP on treeless saddle

Iv tried a treeless saddle on my horse and the only thing I'm not happy with is the lack off room beween the front off the saddle and the horse. Is this normal because it's treeless. If it was a tree saddle it would be no good but is treeless different?
 
i have a treeless for my boy and i have also wondered this i did ask a lady on the yard to have a look and she did say it was normal because they offer a close contact sort of fitting xx
 
Treeless saddles sit a lot closer to the withers than treed saddles, the rule of thumb is that you should still be able to fit a finger between saddle and horse (although unlike a treed saddle you won't be able to see a clear channel under the gusset all the way across the saddle). So what you describe sounds OK HOWEVER I cannot recommend enough that you get the treeless saddle properly fitted by a treeless saddle fitter who can explain about fit and the (many) adjustments you will need to make in the future. If you do not you risk causing as much pain and injury to your horse's back as you would with a badly fitting treed saddle.
 
Before you buy a treeless saddle, have a look at the web site for Enlightenedequitation.com, I have had major problems finding a saddle to fit my boy. I had a very good make of saddle made to measure by a very good reputable saddler, who I would always reccommend to anyone wanting a conventional saddler, but I noticed that when going down hill my boy always seemed a bit "pottery" and not really striding out, also he has twice pulled a muscle in his shoulder. At the time we had a Heather Moffett Enlightened Equitation Saddle which we bought for a small very round native ponym I tried it on my horse and with a Pro-lite pad underneath it fits him perfectly. It looks like a conventional saddle which I now jump in, gallop, show and hack in, it doesn't look as "pretty" as a conventional saddle but it fits any horse from a small fat pony to a large cob. Since I have been using it, my boy now strides out going downhill and when I look down, I can see the whole shoulder blade rotating underneath. I would reccommend this saddle to anyone as it is pretty much "one saddle fits all". There is also plenty gullet and wither clearance. Good Luck :D
