help needed...! asap please ..... livery problems already

hi all,

i know this is going to sound like a normal day to day thing for most of you who read this but here it goes....!

i am a 26 year old guy who has been riding horses for many many years, from local to international level, i have trained all of my own horses from foals many of them but some were older never the less... here is my main prob i just wanted to fill everyone in on who i am before you comment and help me on this one...!!!!


i have just joined a DIY yard with a 17.2 bay gelding i have in my care, he is a magnificent horse and has extremely good bloodlines in him his sire is an international grade a stallion and the mare was a 4 star eventing mare, he was bred by a professional stud and i am extremely happy to have him and be lucky to have this caliber of horse with me... my problem is i have had to use a local DIY livery yard near to where i live as i have not got a competition base saughted out yet... although this is very much in the pipelines...... i must admit i am a really nice person i am a nurse by night and school and compete horses during the day normally in the morning (just saying that otherwise people say how do you sleep) i love all of my horses and am really devoted to there preperation and schooling before during and after competition...! on my first day i have had a beautiful response from all of the liveries in the centre.... i.e most of them want to take him home.... and the rest want to stand there and feed him carrots all day.... he is a pure gentle giant and a fab eventer and showjumper in the making... what really gets me is a particular livery there whom just took one look at him and said to her friend who was with her "who would buy a camel like that" followed by "what a onkey looking camel" i know he is a big lad at 17.2 at the shoulder, but you know what he is a fab horse for the future and i know he is a fab horse as i am schooling him on the flat and he is proving his knowledge in gold he is really good at picking things up fast and that is helping me sooooo much.....!!!!!

after this womens comment she gave me the most dirtiest look you have ever seen and just looked away.... i am not happy at all i havent been horrible to anyone in the yard nor has my horse, its not like he has even had a snap at anyone it is not in his nature at all... as i say i am a nurse and have this attitude all the time and am always chatting to everyone and will assist anyone like someone at the yard wants there horse clipped out and they hate doing it so i have said that i would do it for them as i do not mind it at all...!

i know its like tit for tat... but you know i dont deserve for my horse nor me to be commented on in this way to the point that i now feel like i want to leave.... i mean "camel" has she never seen an eventing horse before like this i mean what an idiot... this has really angered me so so much as i am a really nice and genuine person who will help anyone out at the drop of a hat if i can...!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was tempted to give her horse like oats and stuff to make it fizzy and that would be a bit of just desert to see her hit the deck in the school that would be real worth it just to see her come down a peg or two...!! but i would feel really guilty, i dont really want to go to the yard manager as i have only been there for a very short time and i dont want to cause problems in the future at all for myself or my horses or other people at the centre...!!!!!! i hope that some one is out there that can look from the adult point of view and give me some good pointers on assisting at the new yard... i know there is always one but im fed up already.... like to the point that i was going to either take my horse outta there and go elsewhere or i was going to make sure that my new competition base was going to be quicker planned than before... adult suggestions are most welcome please assist...! although i have also already thought of smacking her in the mouth and getting her horse to throw her off or teach it to rear on command ... but that just makes me feel that i am lowering myself to her level and i dont really wanna do that..... sensible suggestions please...!!!!!!!

they is just jealous,just try and ignore them and let your horsemanship speak for itself.

there is probably one on every yard,where-ever you go.

Completely agree with Cahill. Don't lower yourself to her level by attempting to "fizz up" her horse. Just be polite and civil and you can't get into trouble there. Welcome to the forums.

i am going to stay quiet for now, and be good for now.... i qoute you on " attempting to fizz up her horse" trust me i am a nice person but you know i have enough potions in my tack room in my house to wake up a stuben mule let alone the fattest cob you have ever seen in your life...! i just dont wanna get in trouble there and i wont for her defo not..! but you know everyone else was nice and really helped me out today making sure i knew where everything else was and such like it was just her that made me a bit cross... maybe i am just too polite to everyone maybe i should just toughen up a bit....!!!!!
 
i would not `fizz` her horse up,it would be a terrible thing to have a nasty accident on your conscious.
these types usually get their comeuppance in the end anyway,with out you having to do anything.lol
 
yeahand also as a nurse they would probably expect me to deal with her after the accident and her so no it would not be a good idea it could back fire and yeah i would feel guilty about it, as i am not like that i just dont like people with a bad attitude it annoys me soooooo much.... LOL.....!!!!!!!!
 
She's only one person out of the whole yard who has given you the cold shoulder, forget about her, concentrate on building a friendship with those who made the effort. That's not to say you should ignore her, be civil and polite but leave it at that. There's always someone who spoils it for everyone, whether it's on a yard, at work, school and college etc! If she wants to be childish then that's fine.

You have ridden international level horses, and yet are contemplating feeding up another persons horse to make it upset, or "teaching it to rear on command"? Hmm. Oh dear...

FCS, She only made an ignorant comment! Don`t take it to heart!

There are always people like that at every yard you will ever go to - get used to it now.
To do something to cause an accident to her or to do something to her horse would be inadvisable and probably a criminal act to boot and could get you in a lot of trouble.

Remember the playground rhyme "Sticks and stones will break my bones........"etc, etc

I must admit this wasn't the post I was expecting when I read the title and the second paragraph.

wbht - welcome to the forum. 17.2hh really isn't that big in the grand scheme of things, so if this woman really was shocked by his size for some reason I can only think she's not particularly experienced. You'll find yards can be quite bitchy at times, and for the most part it's very unpleasant. If you really can't tolerate dirty looks, I'd suggest you ask her outright (politely!) if she has a problem with you or your horse. I'm not entirely sure a bizarre comment from a perfect stranger warrants thoughts of physical assault though, nor doing anything to other people's horses. It really isn't 'nice' to feed horses without the owner's permission - you've no idea how the horse will react and what physiological damage it may cause.

Taking this at face value;

Hi,

Just be as sweet as pie to this person, it will hack her off twice as much as if you bite back. Anything she says or does afterward will just make her look very foolish.
Water off a duck's back and all that.

 
I would just ignore it and carry on with your own business - if you don't react the person will probably just get bored. could be jealousy. I had this at a yard once, except in reverse!! All the other liveries had huge competition horses and evented etc, i had a my hairy new forest pony and was happy just hacking and doing local shows- used to get stick for it all the time and rude comments - let it go.
 
I am quite surprised that, with all the experience of the horse world you say you have, you'd be upset by what some silly livery says about your horse. There will always be horrible people, and I am sorry you have encountered one. Just let it go. However, considering revenge by getting someones horse to do something dangerous is very worrying indeed - I hope this was just a flippant comment and not something you'd actually consider doing!
 
If you're genuine then: ignore the silly bat and get on with it.

If you're not, and comments such as trying to get a horse to hurt someone, not being used to the bitchy horse world, and being a nurse but still wanting someone badly hurt tend to suggest that you're not, then bob off and annoy another forum

The trick with being at livery is to appreciate that you meet all sorts. Some you'll get on with, others you won't.

Do your thing, don't get involved in yard politics and ignore jealous jibes.
