Hi there I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding cut on mares well....private parts, my mare came in from the field on sunday with a sliced one!!

I was just looking to see if anyone had any good tips for healing this and time scales they usally take to heal.

Thanks x

How????? Does it look like it could have been deliberate or has she been kicking flies off her bag and caught herself with a shoe? Are we talking teats or lady bits? Does she need stitching? Can you get a photo up?

I will try and upload photo but it will be tomz,
Were talking ladys bits, and there are 2 mares on my farm that have come in withthe same cut over the last week, I was thinking it could be deliberate.however you don't want to think people out there could do something like that!
The vet can't do much because of where it is he said they will just come out and make it worse, it looks like some thing has slit it straight across onr side on her bits. x

That sounds like you've got a nutter about! I would report it to the police as three with the same injury is too much of a coincidence. I take it the vet has seen it then - what did they say? - Apart from not stitching, which I understand now I know where the cut is. Did they offer any suggestions and do they know that there are other mares with the same injury.

I think you should post this in NL2 as well as you will get more of a response.

Hi sorry there is 2 mares including mine but still 1 u can except 2 i find a bit strange, like i said before you don't want to think that someone would do that....then u think am i getting carried away with my self and it just 2 horses that have happened to do the same thing in the same field.

what is NL2? never seen it.

The vet said just keep it clean there not alot he can do, bless her she hates been in and now she's grounded till it heals, but not sure how long that will take. X

Have you got barbed wire in the field? They could have been rubbing their backsides on there and cut themselves.

You could use some sudocreme on it, which is soothing and contains healing properties...

New Lounge 2 - It's another part of forum on here, but more people read the posts in there than in Vet.

I still think it's an odd place to have a 'slice' cut. Unless there is somewhere they are rubbing their bums and have caught themselves. It's a nasty thought but there are some very strange people out there.

Poor girly, I hope it heals up soon for her.

There is wire in the field but nothing that would go that deep, plus she 18hh and she would have to sit on the wire to rub there, we have hecked the field 3 times now and no one can find anything that would go that deep.

It's quite deep, and if shes in it stops as much dirt getting in and the flys bothering her cut.

Report it to the police - there may be something else similiar with other horses that you don't know about. Three is too strange for an accident.

this is an old article going back to 1992 but you can see from reading that this happens frequently. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ful...ts-1539984.html
I found a six inch cut of horse tail in my horses field although we could not find the horse it had come from. It had been cut with either a pair of scissors (more than likely) or a knife as the edges were not jagged but straight across. A few days later I found a rag doll in the field in the long grass with its pants pulled down. Many of the horses play up in and around this particular field, so it had always made me wonder if someone is messing around. Years ago my friends mare was investigated by vets after receiving strange wounds to her back end. It turned out she had been shot in the bottom and privates with air gun pellets - some of which had embedded in her bottom. There are some very weird and cruel people around, if it were me I would be extremely cautious. Sometimes these attacks can be related to religous rituals, incidentally one religion/sect celebrate the Battle of The Boyne on the 12th of July. Mars also enters Gemini. None of which make sense to me, but some sicko's don't need excuses. Incidentally there was not a full moon on Sunday.

My friends mare had a six inch cut under her tail which the vet said he was sure it had been done with a knife, she reported it to the police but the yard owner wasn't happy that she had so we moved not long after that. Six months later we had heard another mare had suffered the same fate on our old yard.

You need to report it.
