I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me. I have two stunningly beautiful Shire horses that I have had for over 5 years. Because of financial difficulity I may have to make the heartbreaking decision to give them up. I dont want to but I am getting to the point where this may be my only option. I want them to have the best life they possibly can, they certainly deserve it.

I keep them in West Yorkshire. I would like to either loan them to a museum/open farm/attraction (like Beamish or somewhere) that keep horses. I dont want to sell them, although the money would come in really useful their happiness is my main concern and the home they go to has to be 5*** and I would like to continue to see them regularly and have some say in their care and make sure they are always cared for to the highest standard. It would really break my heart if they were passed on from home to home or treated badly.

Does anyone know of anywhere like this that may be interested in my boys? I'd love to have them near to me so I can see them all the time, but if this is not possible I am willing to travel.

I would be interested in someone hleping me with them if I manage to find the money to keep them. Someone to come up to see them with me, groom them, one isn 't broken in to ride so maybe get him started, get my other one that is broken back into work. If you were interested you need to be very comfortable around horses and not be intimidated by horses that are 17.3hh and 19hh.

If anyone may be interested in that or knows anywhere that may be interested in loaning them please pm me or leave me a message. Hope someone can help. My boys mean the world to me.

It may be worth you contacting the National Mining Museum near Wakefield, or the Bradford Industrial Museum as they used to use heavy horses, not sure if they still do or not. Hope that helps.

what are they like in temperment and riding wise cause you could possible try your local riding school as thats where mine have gone to be a heavyweight for men and heavy people to ride

Thanks for your reply. I used to do voulentry work at the mining musem, unfortunately they aren't interested in having more shires, and i would be keen to loan them there to be honest. I was told that the Bradford Industrial museum has/is getting rid of its horses which is such a shame. I'll check it out though

If you google the Black Country Living Museum and e.mail them I know they have just retired a Clydesdale. Their horses have a wonderful life.

Wimpole rare breeds have shires!

They are in Cambridgeshire and owned by the National Trust.

Failing that the Shire Horse Show is in Peterborough in a couple of weeks-why not put a few flyers out-someone maybe able to take them on for you

Good luck
