Help needed Identifying a Vintage Saddle

Hi

I am looking for some assistance in identifying a vintage leather saddle that has come into my possession.

I have attached some pictures, I assume it is some kind of pack saddle, it has a Walsall maker (which I cannot make out) and looks like its dated 1916.

Any help would be very appreciated, no worries if not was worth a try

Thank you - yes does look very similar - the saddle came out of a Shropshire estate and other tack that was with it does have deer motif

Could well be - I have found a great Woman on Facebook, who has confirmed it is a Highland Pony Saddle and that there is a good chance it was used in a military capacity

That looks like a deer saddle to me, for using on highlands on shoots.

Thats a vintage stalking saddle, I'm pretty sure.
The check is called tattersal check and was used in many different saddle linings but more well known as lining for hunt coats and shirts.

Another vote for a deer saddle. They're still worth a fair bit of money.

a bit of googling makes me think almost certainly a deer saddle not a military pack saddle. interesting. It's a lovely thing.

I asked on twitter. It is not military (wrong number of bolts) \and likely to be for deer stalking. Correct.

Thank you all for your help - I have now been able to identify it - A Highland Pony Deer Saddle

Its missing a few straps but is a lovely saddle, I think its a keeper

I know someone who regularly gets these in for reconditioning / flocking etc .. lives on the Black Isle.

I did think deer saddle but wasn't sure if it was a generic pack saddle so thought I'd let someone more expert chime in! I'm very much a saddle fitter rather than saddler so not that knowledgeable on leatherwork etc sadly (and I didn't get notification about the tag, sorry!)
