Hi

I am looking for some assistance in identifying a vintage leather saddle that has come into my possession.

I have attached some pictures, I assume it is some kind of pack saddle, it has a Walsall maker (which I cannot make out) and looks like its dated 1916.

Any help would be very appreciated, no worries if not was worth a try :)

Cheers

Are you on Twitter? I follow a couple of people there who know about army kit for horses. Or I could post a coupe of your pics

Cheers

I’m no saddle expert but being dated 1916 I wonder if it’s from world war 1 a military saddle ?

Could well be - I have found a great Woman on Facebook, who has confirmed it is a Highland Pony Saddle and that there is a good chance it was used in a military capacity

I know someone who regularly gets these in for reconditioning / flocking etc .. lives on the Black Isle.

I did think deer saddle but wasn't sure if it was a generic pack saddle so thought I'd let someone more expert chime in! I'm very much a saddle fitter rather than saddler so not that knowledgeable on leatherwork etc sadly (and I didn't get notification about the tag, sorry!)
