Hi
Please can someone help and give advice before i call the vet out..
my pony recntly had a swollen fetlock with heat up his leg.. but thats gone and its fine.. but on the cannon bone just before the hock there is like a ball of fluid.. which shouldnnt be there.. it doesnt appear to be painful to him when i touch it.. i dont wanna ride him if it is going to make it worser but dont know what to do he isnt lame. i had bandages round it.. cold water on it.. i dont know what else to do.. please help!! asap thankyouuuu X

Sounds like he's sprained it somehow & it could be anything from a hair line fracture, to fluid round a splint forming, a foreign body or tendon or ligament damage. Personally I'd get a vet if you don't know what it is.

Farra had something very similar after an accident in the show ring where a pony fell over in front of her at canter and she had to stop and twist. Her foot planted and the hock was twisted.

She had a couple of vet visits, injections and draining and pressure bandages and now it is not noticeable.

She was not lame and had I not shown, I could have left it but I wanted to see if we could get the blemish gone. She did have x-rays and a scan to make sure there was no serious damage. The swelling was fluid from the joint capsule.

I think it's a windgall if on fetlock, and a bog spavin if on hock. If you press it and it just bulges out somewhere else (like squashing a balloon) that's probably what it is. I'd get a vet to check, but it is probably (I say probably because I'm not a vet ;)) worth getting a vet to check it as soon as convenient.
