As above really, ive got a very difficult descion to make and all my friends are not exactly helping!! Ive lived down south all my life, friends work, horsey connections the lot and now dad wants to move up up up to shrewsbury!! I wont know anyone but i will have better facilites for my horses. Right now i have 3 living out and one at a seperate yard and 5 at home if i moved i could have them all at home together!! But its a big descion to make...
Is there a good horse network up there?
many show centres (prefereably bs)
good tack shops?
a nightlife?
What would u do?
any comments greatly recieved!!
thanks in advance :)

Shrewsbury is nice. There is Prescott and Netley hall for BS. Also Berriewood which does ODE's. Lots of fun rides. These are in Shrewsbury vicinity but there is loads of other venues in and around Shropshire. Not so sure about the best tack shops though

I moved to just outside Shrewsbury last year from Gloucestershire and was surprised quite how horsey it is!

There are few "big" name riders but a really strong community of horse people - pony club, riding club, hunting and happy hackers - loads of good farriers & 3 really good vet practices. Much friendlier than Glos too :)

Tack shops - there's the Stables at Hadnall but tbh, the internet covers most of my horse purchases anyway :)

There is BS - Prescott, Netley close and bigger places like South View, Solihull and Kingswood a bit further away

Nightlife, I have no idea as I'm a sad old person but I'm sure there's loads :)

Let us know what you decide - there are quite a few HHOers in Shropshire!

I live about a mile out of Shrewsbury centre - I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, for me its perfect mix of big town with good shopping and night life and countryside very close. Head about five miles out in most directions and theres horsey places/areas. It's lovely up here :)

I moved up here over 40 years ago from the south (born and bred in Croydon) after a time of moving around in jobs as a groom. Couldn't believe how friendly everyone is up here and they still are.

Give it a try, you can always go back if you don't like it by the sound of it but I'm almost willing to bet that you'll not want to go back once you've got your feet under the table.

I'm in whitchurch which is a few miles outside of shrewsbury and there's plenty going on, lots of fun rides too!
Y'know maybe there's enough of us for a Xmas meet up?? ;-)

Thanks everybody, your making me almost excited to move!! and it means i can finally get 2 donkeys :) would be so nice to meet some of you when i finally move up, ive now go to decide when to do the big move, i think its going to be at least 4 journeys just to get the ponies up!! if i do it before x mas your all welcome round mine for a party....its a big house for just me, dad a cat and two jr's!! Going to need a highly recomended vet (2 broken ponies) and a farrier as the foal and the oap pony have bad toes!! Thanks again everyone :)

Vet wise you can't beat Fyrnwy Vets based at Baschurch; they're all horse vets, that's all they do and all have different specialities. 01939 260251 but can't help with a farrier, sorry, just too far away for mine.

Plenty going on in Whitchurch -really!:p

Would agree though with everyone else , it is a very friendly county (well the North is anyway no experience further south) and very horsey.
Venue wise there is also Tushingham just over the border in Cheshire which holds affiliated competitions.
