I'm in a really horrible situation. Had a nasty fall off my pony in August (Friday 13th!), and broke my fibula, had to have surgery to have it plated and now in a cast for another month, then a walking boot for a month after that. Have decided to give up riding, this is the 2nd time i've broken my leg and just can't afford to take the risk again, it's such a nightmare. Anyway, my pony is on a selling yard, and at £100 a week, he's already in his 5th week of being there, so owing the lady who's trying to sell him more and more each week, thus his value is getting less and less. Also, if she couldn't sell him in the summer, its less likely she's gonna sell him as the winter draws in. I've just dropped the price from £4400 which I felt was too much, down to £3000, thinking the calls would pick up, but having not heard from her, am assuming they haven't. Am now thinking of loaning him out, but I can't vet yards etc cos housebound. Also, he's not a novice ride, so would have to be happy that the loanee could cope with him. Just don't know what to do :(

let us have a look at the ad and see if theres anything obvious that needs changing (you didnt mention the fact hes broken your leg which is why your selling him did you? people will think hes a nut job)

Can you take his shoes off and turn him away on grass keep for a couple of months? Bring him back into work when you are more able or can you find a sharer for him at your yard?

Yeah, I agree with jrp. It's not really the time of year to be buying/selling I wouldn't have thought. If you have the funds or the availability, it might be best to turn him away over the winter and get someone (a sharer or something) to bring him back into work next spring with a view to selling him or loaning him out then.

Sorry you broke your leg :( and that you're giving up.

Actually, whereabouts in dorset are you? and what size/type is your pony?

The thing is you say he's a pony and at £4000 he's must be a worldbeater. Am afraid you have picked wrong time of year to sell on, could be you have overpriced, that's why he's not selling.

For £100 a week you could keep him on Full Livery somewhere and place ads yourself and try selling him.
Perhaps put him on loan until the spring or working livery?
If he's worth 4K is he good at jumping or something? You could send him to a jumping yard and see if they have any better luck in selling him?
Perhaps get in touch with the local pony clubs?
