Hi,
Was at a stud farm today and they told me this really sweet chestnut gelding was for sale. He's only 5years old and is apparently a good allrounder. I havent seen him work/jump/hack out or anything yet, and im not actually 100% sure what he can do.
Anyway he is VERY sweet natured and has a very kind face BUT he has a splint-

and they want £5000 for him??
now im no expert so please everyone what do you think?? Baring in mind I know nothing about this sort of thing!

(Sorry the info given is pretty c**p but will post more when I know more! ) P.S know the people at the stud farm and trust them 100%

Give him a full try out, work out if you like him enough then if you can afford him, get him vetted... or is that not possible?

A splint won't devalue him (presume he's not a show horse?). He is quite young though, so do be careful if you are a novice.

Yes it is possible I just dont know anything about splints!

I mean they said he'll pass the vetting but i'll definately get him vetted anyway, £5000 is a lot of money for it all to go wrong!!
Thanks

What is his breeding? I would make sure you are 101% up to speed with what he can do, see him in action, ride him etc before parting with £5k. He may well be worth that money - but there are lots of other more proven horses out there for that money or less. Buyer beware and all that...

PLease dont dismiss him because of a splint unless you wanted to show him. I have a dressage horse that i wrap up in cotton wool and he has the two biggest splints in the world. He was slightly sore on them when they were developing but now doesnt get a minutes trouble with them, he will pass a vet if sound on it. Best of luck!!
