Hi all,

Looking for a bit of help in finding a new yard for my girlie when I have to relocate in a few months time. I don't know the Nottingham / Derby / Mansfield area at all (I currently live in Norfolk), but would like to find a yard first and then move house based on where she needs to be, so anywhere within a 5-10 mile radius of those places would be great.

She is a bit of a sensitive sort, and lost her marbles when she came to her current yard (and I ended up on the floor more often than I stayed on for quite some time!), so its crucial to me that I find somewhere where she (and I) would be happy.

Any suggestions would be great - am looking to visit some places in the next few weeks to check them out, and would be happy to go on a waiting list / pay to secure a stable until we are ready to move (about 3 months) if I can find the right place. Am more worried about where she is going to go than anything else, so need to get that sorted for my own sanity lol.

Must have's are as follows:
- reasonably small yard - nothing 40+ horses for example, and no need for horsewalkers, solariums etc. Her current yard is c.15 horses and this seems to suit
- all year turnout. Not necessarily all day (she is currently out 7.30am to 2pm) but she does need to be out every day
- she is fine with single, paired or grouped turnout as she is barefoot and well mannered
- floodlit arena with a decent year round surface as I ride weekday evenings in the winter. An indoor school would be fab but is by no means essential - she is used to being schooled in the rain lol!
- access to decent hacking, preferably offroad or country lanes as she is a very curious little girl and if we had to hack through villages it would take forever while we stood and gawped up every driveway :D
- someone who could hack her out for me once a week in winter if weather permits (she goes a bit stale if she doesn't have a good canter out every few days). She is lively but doesn't do anything nasty, just needs a confident rider
- minimum of 5 day full livery during the week but can be flexible on weekends

We don't currently compete, but would like to start a few local shows next year and/or just take trips out to school / hack elsewhere, so not looking for a competition yard, just one with friendly like minded people.

Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated...

Many thanks,
Karen

Bassingfield riding stables in gamston nottingham year round turn out, full or diy livery. It is a riding school too but v friendly.

Hi Karen,
I'm local j25 of M1, I won't recommend my yard for your needs but I'm always keen in seeing other places and training to be a barefoot trimmer so I'm always up for going out to visit diff yards to make contacts. If I can help at all, go and visit a yard or anything please let me know, I don't have loads of local knowledge though! I'd offer you to ride out but my youngster and I just pootle about at the moment half leading half riding, best of luck with it, Hannah

Thanks Velv, and thanks Hannah - may take you up on that!

Would rather go for just livery rather than riding school too, so so far I've come up with:

Lindhurst Livery
Newstead Abbey
Quarry Bank

There are also apparently loads of yards on Cross Lane / Rickett Lane in Blidworth but can't find websites / adverts for any of those so I think its a case of just driving around. Am off Thurs and Fri this week so think I might just do that - drive over and pop into local saddleries and see if anyone is advertising vacancies. Its possibly a little premature given that moving is about 3 months away (on the basis that I need to sell my house and buy another in that time scale!) but its absolutely eating away at me.... The little trollop is such a prima donna (esp for a horse that's done nothing lol!) I know I'm going to lose sleep until I know I've found her new home

If anyone has any experiences of any of the above, do let me know.

Have you tried looking on the preloved website? There's quite afew people on there that are advertising livery spaces in Nottinghamshire so it might be worth a try.

In that area there's a livery yard at the end of cross lane called cottage farm as well as cross lane equestrian, If you're on Facebook cross lane equestrian have a page on there. There's also fairview farm and kirkfields who sometimes offer livery and far baulker farm which is just off the a614 who have good facilities too

Lakeview livery between Derby and Notts is really good. Or warren farm near Mansfield is supposed to be good.
Lots of places in the Mansfield area, it is really horsey. Try looking round sutton in ashfield too, very horsey area and cheap too. also kirkby, giltbrook, eastwood, area.

Hi Karen,

Im not sure if you are sorted for a yard but there is a really nice yard called Quarry Bank Stables located in Newstead Abbey Park...small 15 horse yard with allyear round individual turnout, floodlit school etc. Definately worth giving a call :)
