Have a 14.2 Irish mare who is temporarily living out else where to rest our paddock. She does all the usual pc activities but since living out is just a bit flat when jumping. Been feeding her alfa molasses free and Allen and Page calm and condition. Any suggestions on something that will just give her a little more spark?

Do check her hooves aren't a bit tender in case the different Spring grazing is affecting them. Is she stiff, does she have difficulty turning in a tight circle? Check her pedal pulses, if hooves are warm/hot, is her crest stiff/solid etc?

Hi thanks but shes not laminitic at all. Totally sound , very flexible and a sensible weight. She just looses impulsion quite quickly when jumping. Shes a talented jumper but you can see her tire sometimes half way through a round. Just looking for a good slow release energy giving food that wont fizz her up

Ok. :)

You can buy horse Boosters that really do work, just like you would give a horse a syringe calmer before a show you can give them a booster. Seems to work wonders on Traditional cobs that need a bit extra

There is NAF energy that is pretty good, procell, etc

Personally look at upping feed amount first then look to other options

ours often go like this at this time of year... it's partly us dropping the feed as the grass starts to come through, partly the grass being poor, and partly an end of hunting season/changing coat sort of thing.

a couple of weeks of NAF EnerG or RedCell usually sorts it. If you use the NAF one, we find we need to give it to them in a syringe as neither of them (not even piggy Ron!) will eat it in their feed

We use EnerG for our PC cob if he goes a bit flat, and for support during PC Camp when the workload is so high. He is also on A&P's power & performance - you could possibly think about switching up from calm & condition?

But - if she isn't used to living out might she not be resting as much as she would in a stable? If she's alone she might keep moving through the night - or if she is not alone might another horse be moving her on?

Brilliant thanks for the suggestions. I have switched her to a &p sustain which feed merchant thought might help and am going to try some energ and see how that goes. Also doing fitness training to start getting levels up for the coming season

I have had really good results from tens supplements energy boost. Made a big difference to my laid back new forest who needed a bit more oomph to event :)
