I have a 15h arab x cob, strong as you like but good natured. I have had her for 2 years and when I first got her it took nearly 8 months to calm/slow her down and to sort out her canter work. I have recently moved yards (2wks) and she has made an exceedingly strong bond with another mare in the field (wont leave the field, constant calling etc) At the new yard we have a work area but not a sand menage anymore.

The problem - In trot and moreso in canter she continually changes leg, so continuos flying changes, she goes sideways, head up, basically a nightmare that we cannot seem to sort, we cant ride her through it, she does it eveytime (but not in sitting trot) saddle seems fine, back was checked not long ago, and have had a good prod - teeth again done about 2 months ago. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any idea what it can be and what I can do to sort............. any help gratefully received as I just feel like throwing in the towel! :(

I have re-schooled a horse who has had this problem. The more you stick at the canter, the easier it becomes for the horse because the more balanced they get. I don't know what you are like as a rider- but if you are not balanced then maybe it is work getting someone balanced to school the horse for you until she finds her feet.
At first try circles, with the canter forward. When she starts getting balanced you can try collecting it.
Another thing is just keep an eye on her back, or make sure you don't notice any unsoundness. Sometimes all the messing around is because something is hurting. My dressage horse was going brilliantly, then he started to develop head shaking, changing legs and was becoming very behind the leg, none of the team could figure it out for months, not the physio, vet, anyone... we got him X-rayed and he had kissing spines.
I DOUBT this is the case! but just saying to keep an eye out for lameness as would hate it to happen to anyone else!
good luck
:)
