Im sure this subject gets trotted out every year like the tattered old christmas tree fairy but having never bought any before, im in the market for a quality pair of clippers, mains or battery (as long as batt isnt likely to die mid clip) but preferably quiet and not likely to over heat please as i have a never clipped before 4yr tb x to tackle shortly (i know, lucky old me, eh) and i'd like us both to be alive to see christmas if we can.

Budget £150-200 as i only have 1 horse to do and she's not a hairy monster.

Liveryman, whal, Lister... what do we think Ladies, any reccs?

I wont offer chocolate or jelly babies or anything else for reading this as you know i dont really have any but all suggestions i will be very grateful for.

Lister Star. I have the Legend as I clip a lot but the Star will vbe perfect for a one horse owner. Very reliable and easy to tension correctly. Heinigers are a nightmare to get the tension right.

I have Wahl Artiko's, great and easy - I only have three horses to part clip, and it's dead easy as blades just clip on and off, easy to clean, don't get too hot and cope really well even with slightly greasy 24-7 turnout type of coats...

Lister Star are very reliable, light and easy to use- but not all that powerful for thick coats. They leave a great finish though

a friend recently gave me her old Heineger clippers and wow they are good. Made light work of a full clip on my super hairy beast. Not the quietest but as he was sedated it didnt matter!

Thank you to everyone who's replied on this thread. I am now looking at Masterclip. the Liveryman c130 and the Lister Star and maybe Equiclip. Both at the top of my budget but not sure i want to risk buying second hand off Ebay so will be new.

Now i just need some sedalin...for me. ;)

Haha I am sure you will be fine :-) I love my liveryman C130 so easy to use i dont regret buying new although inital outlay seems expensive its cheaper in the long run. i worked out over the last 8 years the cost to pay someone to clip my horse would have bought 2 pairs of decent clippers!!!!!

I just bought some Heiniger Handy clippers - They are amazing!! They were a £245 and came next day direct from Heiniger, but they really are the best I have ever used. Gave my hairy cob a full clip last night and they did the job perfectly, body, legs the lot!
