I have aquired a stray ferret which was found wandering in our local woods in the middle of the town where I live, I have rang round the local vets and ferret rescue to see if anyone has lost one. Not sure how old he is as he isn,t very big, only the size of a gill. He is very tame and playful and follows me everywhere. My problem is that he is nipping when I pick him up and when i,m playing with him. He,s not nasty just seems like he,s getting over excited when playing and see my hand as another toy. He gets let out twice a day for about an hour at a time and we have given him lots of things to play with. I have owned a couple of ferrets before but they never nipped at all so I have never dealt with this before. I have been telling him in a stern voice NO when he does it and I did read that you should flick the end of their nose when they do it but that seems cruel to me. Any suggestions please?

just a little tap with one finger on the end of his nose (not hard obviously) might help deter him from nipping, otherwise, it may just be something you have to put up with. We have people at work who say their ferrets sometimes nip being playful and its just something they put up with.

hi there new to the sight, we breed ferrets and we found any that nip a tap on the nose is usualy enough to stop it, anouther thing you can try is hold by the sruff of the neck a but a firm no with a growl should be enough really.
