Hi everyone posting for a friend who has just become a granny for the first time.
Her mare had a foal about a week and a half ago and was wondering what do the rest of you do for turnout.
How long do you let them out and when can you begin to leave them out all night.
New to it all so any help welcomed.
Cheers

Mine went out first day for 1/2 hour then a gradually increased it till now they are out from 8.00 until about 12.30/1.00 then in for the afternoon and back out about 5 until 8.00/8.30 If the flies are bad they spend longer in. I am waiting for another mare to foal so they will stay in until the new foal is old enough to stay out at night, but i think my filly (4 weeks on Monday) is big and strong enough to go out at night now. Be happy that they respect whatever fencing you have though.

Hi

If the foal is strong enough and the weather is fine we let ours out as soon as possible. sometimes rugging the foal up at night depending on the temperature, the last foal was out day and night after 3 days. Mum was happy and the foal loved it.
