yesterday i clipped my little boy all over. "why?" i hear you say. Well he is an american miniature horse and thats how they are shown, clipped, and i have my first show next weekend. Having eventually got through about 6 inches of foal fur ( And im not kidding! ) to find a nice dapple grey underneath but also found inches of grease also!! Its horrible. I bathed him after clipping him thinking it would get rid of it but i have been today and its all still there. Brushing doesnt seem to get rid of it. I was hoping to do the best condition class but if i cant get rid of this grease i cant possibly do it. I know the grease was there for a reason but he is now rugged up well. Someone has suggested bathing in vinegar to get rid of the grease but i dont know how much to use? Has anyone any suggestions or remedies on how to get rid of this grease!!! Also any suggestions on potions to get rid of tram lines from the clippers would be appreciated. Please help

I used some vinegar diluted in a bucket of water on my horse to get rid of white dandruff type stuff after clipped, then afterwards I put a little baby oil in water and wipe horse over again with an old piece of velvet

Abowl of water which is so hot you can just stand it, with a little methylated spirits in it (might be worth testing there's n reaction to it). A couple of tea towels.
Dunk tea towels in water & wring out, then rub the coat ensuring the hair is left laying in the right direction when you are done.
Exhausting but should do the trick.

Hi Stinkbomb. don't know if this is going to be suitable advice for you and yours but heres what I do after clipping in Autumn.
I get water as hot as I can stand it....and I mean hot....so be careful! thoroughly soak a cloth in it...and then wring out the cloth completely (so you acheive a kind of "dry heat" ) then rub over your pony....the wrong way to the lie of the coat..as soon as you feel the cloth cool, make it hot again but I must emphasise you make sure you wring out the cloth otherwise your pony will burn with the hot water going onto him..
I am not sure what to say about tramlines on the coat...its usually down to maybe your blades weren't too sharp or maybe your hand was not giving a really steady pressure...but I use the hot cloth method to great effect and I know it works! Good luck!

Someone who clips regularly told me that when a horse is first clipped and has a winter coat you will get tramlines anyway. Don't know if anyone else agrees but that is what she told me as I was asking about clipping mine.

Hi wendygood, its only a local show, no miniature classes and i am only going for experience for the little one and myself!!! Was going just for a drive but thought i might aswell enter while i am there! Where abouts are you from? Tell me more about your miniatures, any advice you can offer most appreciated as im new to them!!

Thanks for the tips everyone ive got plenty to try now!!!!

I will get pics on as soon as i can find the damm camera!!

I use the hot cloth method but with household soda crystals (a handful to a bucket) added to the water; it gets rid of a lot of the grease but TBH, it's elbow grease and good strapping that will get rid of it altogether but not many people strap properly nowadays; - is there a smilie for a violin playing!?
