Ok so my jumping horse has been on box rest followed by just recently walk/ trot on 15min hacks since Jan. He does have to be sedated everytime tho. Vet doesnt want to take this quick as this will only make him fitter than his leg is, if that makes sense?

He was on hard feed and haylage. But he is far to fat, which is not good for his check ligament injury. So have cut out hard food, and he's just on haylage now. (2-3 medium nets a day )

So do you think the weight should start to come off soon, i am hoping the vet will allow us to start canter after next scan. (around 10th May)

I would put him on hay but not possible, so would soaking haylage reduce calories!?

Or any other suggestions..

I would be replacing some of the haylage ration with something like Hi Fi lite which can be fed in a tub at some point during the day / night.

You really ride a sedated horse??

Yes on vets instructions, only has 1.5ml of sedaline, to take edge off him, if he hears or sees the slightest thing then will undo the healing of the check and no doubt do damage to me! Trust me would love not to have too.

Is a bucket of hi- fi lite less fattening than a haynet of haylage then?

Most definately.

Oh thats good to know! The only problem with that is that he isnt too keen on hi fi or similar, so will just pick at it but i suppose that his choice, if he's hungry he'll eat it.
