I have recently bought a 11 month old clydesdales xcob. He was quite for the first week or so but has recently started to reared up on me when walked on his lead. He also bites and pushes me whenever I'm near him. I have tried to chase him away when he rears up but he will continue to come forward. Any help to resolve this problem would be grateful.

Thank you. I have had youngsters in the past which I have not had this problem with. I can walk him out on the roads without any issues but he is reluctant to be lead in his field. He has came from a home where he was at the bottom of the pecking order and is now the only horse.

And there is your problem, the most important thing to provide for a youngster is equine company. I can't believe that any breeder was silly enough to sell a young Clydie to a home with no company.

Also I do not understand what you mean when you say he rears when you are leading him so you chase him away - what do you do with the lead rope? If there is a delay while you remove the rope, he will not associate the chasing with the rear. Even if you don't need experienced help the youngster does.
