help neglected horse

ew1801, did you take her water? has she had a good drink (ideally water with a bit of salt and sugar dissolved in it, homemade electrolytes)?
if not, please do, or tell us where she is so that we can try to sort out someone local to do it.
sorry, but we have no way of knowing that the field owner will definitely take the mare water tonight. the hay's important too obv, but the water much more so...

yes i took her water we filled a full bath up for her. shes had two small bales of hay put in as well. will keep checking still but i know the field owner will make sure she has hay and water.
shes going to worm her tomorrow as we have no idea when she was last done

Very well done Ew1801:):) It is heartening to know there are kind, caring and compassionate people around - just sad that there are so many that are the opposite:(

I'm really impressed by what you are doing here! Fabulous that between you and the field owner, something is getting done!

Can you give an idea of where you are.....? Only so if anyone knows of anyone else who can help, thats all!

Good for you EW, what a wee star.I hope the wee mare is pampered and loved for the rest of her life. Well done for getting it sorted so quickly. xxx
How Ridiculous that there is not a batter system in the uk for situations like this. How often have we seen threads like this and the poor person ends up pulling their hair out and having sleepless nights over an animal which is clearly suffering. It is a scandal that the RSPCA said that she would get enough moisture from the snow, do they not have any training at all?
And as for the poor horse having to be dying on the floor before they wil react is scandalous. You should really write and complain.

im in south yorkshire.
im just kicking myself that i didnt act earlier but at least shes going to be ok now. even if the other woman wont take her i think i will as shes a lovely old mare.
very upset about whw and rspca. its the first time ive ever had to phone either and i know the weather is bad but the horse is two minutes drive off the motor way and the roads are clear around the village so they could have gotten to her, but at least shes ok now

Poor mare, she must have been so glad just to have some company :(

Hopefully she's on the road to better things now, there are quite a few south yorkshire HHOers I think (I'm in west yorkshire :) )

Well done you! Thankgoodness you noticed and have been able to help her. I pay direct debit to RSPCA and all I ever seem to get from them is calls and letters asking for more money it makes me so cross to hear this sort of thing. Plese keep us posted on her progress x

Will keep you all updated. just been thinking back about when she was on our yard. she was such a good mare and i know she used to hunt and she had bred the owner a foal and the owner was teaching a novice to ride on her when she left.
she deserves a good home and we will make sure she gets one

RSPCA often deal with horses when they don't have the basic knowledge (first hand knowledge) - so have the will but don't understand.

So glad you had a happy ending and WELL DONE!!! for pushing and seeing this through. I am also impressed that the field owner stepped upto the mark as well!

Well done you, so nice to read a thread that ends well :-) I am glad to hear that you looked out for her.

What a shame that the owner let this happen. I am sure she was probably in a difficult financial situation but that is not a good excuse, she should have confronted her financial situation and sorted something out :-(

ive already clicked on as to what teds mum is like. and over my dead body would i let her take this horse (or any for that matter). hence why i never responded to her offer

I lost this thread during late yesterday afternoon, but wanted to 'bump' it just to say a huge well done to ew1801 for doing what she did & getting that poor mare some human kindness at long last.
Brilliant stuff missus - do let keep this thread updated please:)

It IS brilliant, she deserves a medal for taking action as she has done! And if ever you can, some piccie of said horse if it's ever possible! :D

THAT'S an idea, we should have a thread pinned for 'Animal Heroes'.....:D

right another update. just had a phonecall from field owner who has phoned the owner up and played hell with her apparntly and she has gave the horse to her.
shes planning on asking weather a woman who has her own yard and breaks horses in will take her on as she will have a good home with them.
she asked the owner when the last time she had been down to see her and it was last wednesday. cant believe it
at least she will get seen to now and i can sleep easy at night

Great news - your persistance should be a kick up the backside to us all. I am so pleased the little mare now has a rosy future.

I'm voting you in as the new RSPCA chief - with you in charge the organisation may actually become credible!!!:D

well done for perservering so glad this mare is now going to get all the love and care she deserves - like everyone else says please keep up informed (and keep pictures just in case any decides to take action against the original owner) how she's getting on

Really well done to ew1801, thank you so much on behalf of a lot of us who were worrying about this mare, you're one of the few who actually do something in this sort of situation. Good on the field owner too, brilliant that they are going to care for this mare and sort out a better place for her.
as to the RSPCA, words fail me.

Yes, well done for doing something. Ive read many a post on threads like these telling people to walk away and mind their own business- so well done for doing something.

Just to be practical though, make sure you get the change of ownership in writing from the old owner

That's brilliant news, EW, well done for being so persistent. I don't know how the owner could sleep at night, presumably with food in her belly, while her poor old horse was hungry, thirsty and wondering why she didn't come. What is wrong with some people?

So glad this mare is going to be ok.

Well done, EW.

I have been following the thread with interest. Makes me wonder if similar things are happening around the country but not being noticed.

Hope all goes well with the mare. She deserves a good home.

:)

Well done EW,thats one saved. With this weather I am sure there are a lot of horses in the same boat. If people cant afford to feed them when there is no snow and they have to forage, the problem is 10 times worse now. Wish I was in a position to take a couple in
