Hi all, fairly new to here - but here goes!!
Just bought my 7 yr old hanoverian back into work after 4 wks -he kept pulling shoes off (is lame without) and most recently was stung by a wasp when schooling, which he hasn't forgotten, he keeps quivering and acting as though something has landed on him when in the school!! Thought a couple of weeks off may relax him but this doesn't seem to be the case- and now we have no brakes!!Just runs faster in trot and the more I half halt the stronger and faster he gets. Got a lesson booked for weds, but just wondered if there is anything I could try in the meantime? Have tried seeing if a circle will slow him, and just kept on the circle to see if he would slow down himself but ended up like a wall of death!!- only had him 6 mths, all advice gratefully received and thanks for reading,

Several thoughts occur.....

Does he get worse as he gets hot?

Just a random thought that the wasp sting might have ultra sensitised him and he's feeling uncomfortable as he works? (have experienced this myself - don't know if it applies to horses!)

Try working in small circles in walk and then allowing him forward into trot (not kicking, just letting him jog into the transistion), but staying on the small circle, then making a transition back down again gently. don't stay in trot too long. Walk forward, then repeat.

Make sure your saddle still fits - after time off, he may have gained weight/lost muscle and the saddle may be uncomfortable for him

Don't know if any of the above are useful or helpful.... but best of luck
