Just doing a pre run next weekend with my caravan to make sure I can remember how to fix everything up on it, as my boyfreind wont be coming with me.

All I need to get is a battery as there are no electric hook ups but am freaking out now as my friend on yard has said the battery wont work my straightners, (How am I going to manage lol) I was going to take my laptop so I could keep upto date on otherstuff but Im guessing that this probably wont work either, and what about my tv?

My friend said I could get a convertor thing that you plug in ????? and then plug your straightners in to it???? (hi rhis you are prob reading this laughing) but im really confused (not hard she says)

I also thought that the battery charges its self but apperently I have to charge it before I go what if it runs out and I cant put the lights on ???

OMG this is going to be an experience, I bought a caravan so I could have all my luxury items I might aswell have just taken my tent,

anybody else going who knows what they are doing if you see two helpless girls not having a clue please come and help, we even have to put an awning up, (going to make sure the poles are coded next week on my pre run)

so if anyone can shed some light as to what the battery will work let me know.

Sounds to me like you need a generator..! Then you can plug all sorts of things in and most importantly, charge your phone..! ;-)

Sounds like you need a small petrol powered generator, the battery will only run lights and the water pump unless you take a few and swap them over
if your battery is fairly new pluging the van in for a day before you go should charge it enough to work the lights for a few days but an invertor will run it down in no time ...sorry

Thats ok as long as I know, can you just imagine I had gone and just taken all my electrics with me, we would be sitting in the dark lol, we are taking a in-car charger for our phones so thats that one sorted, maybe get some gas straightners,

dont think I am allowed a generator, said something on the booking form that asked if i was taking a generator so maybe we are booked in to a different field or something.

im so excited cant wait now.

Thats why we stay in a B&B.............

Seriously can't you just tie your hair back? Think of the time you'll save! No way do I bother doing anything fancy when I'm at a 3DE, just wash it and stick it in a ponytail!

Then get one of those nifty solar charger thingies for the phone and the laptop???

You can get a thing called an inverter that you plug into the cigarette lighter in your car and it converts the power from 12v to 240v. It has a 3 pin plug socket in it, like this http://www.lindy.co.uk/in-car-mains-power-inverter-175w/70278.html, (nearest I can get to link, sorry). To avoid a dead battery if you use it for more than a short time, you have the engine idling, basically using your car as a generator. HTH

How many watts does your hair straighteners use. It will be printed on them. The inverter shown is only 175 watts I think. For every 100 watts ,you are going to need about 9 amps at 12 volts. Larger inverters must be wired and correctly fused, direct to the battery, a cigarette lighter socket will not handle the heavy current. At about 1200 rpm, your engine will take very roughly 15 minutes to recharge ,if you have drawn 100 watts for an hour.
